tx guys i know bout the mivec. but personaly think think this is just business. I doubt there is any difference between the 8 n the 9 performance wize. I think this is business related because a lot of DUMB people buy these cars that have no idea what they are so they think ooo let me buy the new 9 since im about to buy a car.
Honestly not 10% of the evo owners out there push the car 2 the limit.
THANK YOU. for the rsponse guys.

hmm i would have to say more than 10% of all Evo owners are on these or other forums, and except for a few random idiots, we all do or try to. and there are differences, if you looked you would see that there is a IX running 11's right now with minimal mods, if Im not mistaken, so i think you are way off and i dont get what you mean "business" teh name of the car IS Evolution, so it makes sense.

Ok i give up, search, use google, GO TALK TO A DEALER, something, if you dont listen than I cant help, they arent the same car, body YES different, the front is way different, adn unlike the 03's I think they all have ACD, and mivec is a big difference, its like a non vtec honda and a vtec honda, they are way different, its the similar principal, dont assume if you dont know.

you said it yourself, you know about the new MIVEC motor. not a big difference? your freaking crazy. you said it should be faster and handle better, well it does thanks to more response and a smoother power-band from the MIVEC motor. you said when a new model comes out it should be improved, or in your case "imporved". and it is improved. it seems to you that it has what the 8 does, which it does, but w/ the new MIVEC head, it has none the less "imporved".

ok, i will do my best to help you out. when a new model comes out, it normally comes in 1 of 2 ways. the company can either do small improvments to the existing model or they can release a brand new model which normally includes a new chassis, new engine (or revised engine), new interior etc..

normally, when a car is released, it will have about 3 revisions (small evolutions if you may) before it will be change completly for a new chassis. most companies will also release new editions for the existing models to keep things fresh. for example, for the evo8, mitsu released the MR edition which is the same car as the GSR but it includes a few extras like better suspension, 6 spd tranny, special color etc.. Now, to get a better understanding of how these revisions and evolutions work, we can look at the CT9A chassis for the EVO. In 2002 mitsubishi released the EVO 7 which was a brand new chassis (ct9a) and was pretty much a brand new car except for teh 4g63 which was the same except for a few simple revisions. now, in the next few years, mitsu released the evo 8 and evo 9 which are not a brand new car but an improved EVO 7 (evolution of the existing model). both the evo 8 and the 9 share the same interior, chassis, engine, brake etc.. with the 7. however, each new model improved just enough over the old model to warrent its buy and make it better than before (it is not evolution if it is not better than before). Now, after about 3 revisions of the CT9a, mitsu will release the EVO X in 2007 which will be a brand new car (as you can already see) and will share very few items with the old EVOS. So far mitsu has followed the 3 revisions rule but sometimes a company will be forced to make less revisions before going to a new chassis. for example, EVO 1,2 AND 3 were one model because they shared the same chassis. EVO 4, 5 and 6 were all based on the CP9A chassis and EVO 7,8 AND 9 are also one model which is the CT9A chassis.

Now, you talked about the E36 and E46 in terms of the EVO 8 AND EVO 9. well, you are comparing apples to oranges because the E36 to E46 was a chassis change (a brand new car) and not a revision. a better comparison would be EVO 8 ---> EVO9 = 2001 BMW E46 M3 -----> 2003 BMW E46 M3 SMG. it is the same car but has small revisions (new tranny, new interior options, new water pump etc...). if you want to compare evos to the e36 to e46 bmws, the right evos would be EVO 6 (cp9a) ---> EVO 8 (ct9a) which were different cars.

in conclusion,

if you own an EVO 8 and are thinking about the 9, don't expect a brand new car but you can expect some small changes that might make it worth while to upgrade.

(sorry about the long winded post, i got a bit carried away but hoped that it helped)

I'm glad somebody responded and didn't just say "search" or start cursing the guy out. Blonde actually used his BRAIN and gave this guy some input as to the real differences in EVOs. A good response, Blonde!
