How is this thread even in "Evo General"? Should be somewhere else.

Man,

I must of had a great salesman when I test drove my EVO. I was standing there at the lot walking around the one I wanted and a sales man came up and asked if I wanted to test drive it. I said I'm not really sure about the purchase right now but what the hell. Not only did he point me in the direction of an empty sub-division (being built) but he told me after coming to a complete stop to take off as fast as I could. Oh, by the way, there was someone test driving a GT Mustang behind me so he waved him to take off first just to get the slow car out of the way so we could have some fun.

After this, (let off in 3rd doint about 75-80 before the turn) we get back to the lot and he asked what I thought. I already knew I wanted the car, but told him I needed the wife's buyin. At the point, he told me to take the car home to show her and let her drive it.

I was sold! Great saleman and a great dealership! You don't find those everyday. Oh, not to mention they've already replaced one brake caliper and the wing, no questions asked!

Hope others are having some luck like this too!

****My Secret to test driving a nice car*****
Look like you could afford the car by dressing professional. You don't always have to do this, but it sure would help a lot of you young folks in your t-shirts and jeans. (Just my 2cents)

I was going to buy an STi until I went to check them out and the Salesman said they didn't give test drives. I said no test drive, no buy. Went to the Evo and it definitely was the smart move for me in the end.

I can understand not buying a car without a test drive, however I have read so many posts where the performance of the evo or sti has been tested on a test drive. Sorry boys but I am glad the dealers don't offer tests drives or should I say joy rides. I know this topic has been beating to death on other threads but I think the break in period the manual outlines which is shift before 5000rpm the first 600 is there for a reason.

BTW, I'm sure SinisterSubaru can comment of this but the new 06 WRXs come with 2.5L engines but a smaller turbo than the STi... I just wonder if their trannies will be able to handle the torque output! WRX trannies have been known to be frail ...

I don't see where the 06 STi wants to be an Evo. Anybody that knows their cars is not going to confuse one for the other. They look nothing alike. They only similarities they have with eachother, aside from AWD drivetrains and 4 cyl. motors are rear wings that could double as a picnic table.

I went to the dealer, told them I wanted to see if I liked the way the car handeled, if I did I would buy one. We took it out, they asked me to keep it under 6K, which I did. I told the salesman that I was going to drive it the way I would if I owned it, he said,"Go for it!". I pushed it hard into and out of several ramps entering I-95, I took it up to 120 on one pass, then 130 on the second. That was all I needed, I had them aquire a black 05 and bought it within two weeks of the test drive. The STi is a good car, I just don't like the way it looks and I hate the seats, too flat for my liking. In addition,I considered the cost of future mods and concluded the Evo was the better wy to go. Besides, I love the way the front looks! I'm still not sure about the rear wing ( makes me think of all the little "ricers" with their cheesy wings)but it's growing on me, I think.
I would conclude that the STi understeers as well, based upon all the test results I've read by professional drivers, but especially based upon the video from those two British on the speed show on cable

i went to subaru to try to check out the STI
they dun have one in stock
but saying one is coming but they dun offer test drive on that

I told him I was not planning to buy very soon
more like 6 months timeframe ( Subaru VIP invoice pricing ...)

anyway , after I seem quite unimpressed by the WRX Ltd ,
I said the 5sp gearbox on WRX is hopeless ={P
( I drove the BMW there and told him I may or may not trade an Audi in ...)
He said he will call me when the STI comes and ask me to find a time to check it out ...

STI is known for performance , to win a customer who wants to buy performance,
I guess a test drive is inevitable, especially when the customer thinks WRX is not good enough =P
