Test drove an '06 STI today....

I told the saleswoman, "Don't insult my intelligence. Don't think I'm going to take my test drive on the way home." She replies to me, "Well, you can take it around the parking lot." I said, "Good enough." So, I jump in the car, and pull right out on to the highway. I said, "Oooops, wrong turn!" I floored the gas, shifting like a maniac, and brought the car back to the dealership. I told her, "I'll take it! But not this one."
I wouldn't have been such a jerk about it, if I would've just gotten a test drive.
At a different dealership, when I was still looking, I had to make an appointment to drive one. They had one on the lot. So, I drive 20 miles to the dealership for my appointment, and there's the car sitting on the showroom floor.
Test drive? Nah. They just wanna sit there and pat me on the ***, and tell me how great it performs, and this and that. Can I make that judgement on my own by staring at a car and taking some snake's word for it? I drove 20 miles to stare at a car on a showroom floor.
So, what did I do? I talked to the GM of the dealership and told him he just lost a sale. Then, to add insult to injury, he offers me a test drive in a standard WRX, and tells me, "This one's nearly as fast, and handles nearly as well."
He's lucky I didn't punch him.

I was tempted to do the same thing; just go out and purchase an Evo, when that happened. If I weren't such a huge fan of the STi since its introduction in 1994, I probably would have.
No questions asked when I looked at Evos. I got a test drive.
But, in all honesty, I had already made up my mind on an STi, even before I drove an Evo.
If I had purchased an Evo, I don't think I would've been as happy with it as I am with the STi.
As a "neutral" point of view, I figured that if I got the STi, I'd wish I had gotten an Evo, and if I had gotten an Evo, I'd wish I had gotten the STi.
Damn, I wish I had both.

I'd put about as much trust in an internet forum as I would with a friend trying to hook me up on a blind date, and telling me, "She's got a great personality."
I enjoy visiting internet forums and talking about particular cars, as well as getting some insight, but I don't believe everything that I read.
I use the information I get on forums as a "baseline," but my determining factors are my own personal experiences.

I, myself just like Sinister Subaru have the same view on cars. I purchased a 2005 STi this summer due to the Mitsubishi dealer near my house thinking I was just a kid that wanted a test drive. Unfortunately for them, I had the funding to back up my test drive. So my dad talked me into giving the STi a whirl. Now since I never got to drive the Evo I can't compare them that well. But I have to admit, the Evo's exterior style has my heart hook, line and sinker. When I open the door to my STi, I'm relieved and realize it wasn't a bad choice.
Sure they both have their good and bad points. Everything has a down side lets be real. I agree with the majority of people, they killed the '06s. I saw them in person as well, just not my cup of tea. My personal issue right now is trying to decide whether I want to start modding my STi or trade it in for the IX. It crosses my mind daily and I just don't know what to do. I'll definitely be losing out on some money if I trade it in for an Evo but it might be worth it. Any input from anyone that had this same issue would be cool. PM me if you would rather discuss that way.
The STi gauge sweep upon start up is by far the coolest thing ever lol. It looks amazing and makes a great STi video intro with a catchy song. I dig the STi hood scoop it screams aggressive and these are aggressive cars(Evos and STis alike.) I prefer the Evo hood vents though and I like the Evo wing better too. I actually de-winged my STi, I have a wingless trunk of a Suby RS now. Cleans up the car a lot and I think it is much improved.
There is my two cents on the whole Evo-STi "battle" as you might say.
*EDIT* - NASIOC is down haha so I figured I would catch up which brought me to my first love Evom<3

They obviously made up their mind on the evo just as you did on the sti and that's why they have it. What did you expect? I left the comparing up to the professionals and that was one of the main reasons for getting an evo. In 90% of the comparisons I've looked at all went with the evo barely edging out the sti. I'm sure the sti is a great car in its own unique way but I'm glad I chose the evo. The evo does have its downfalls like the stiff ride but I've gotten over that after I've felt how it handles turns etc. As for some of the sti bashing on here, most of the guys doing the bashing don't have either car and are basing their judgement on a playstation experience. That's one thing I can't stand about this site...too many posers and not enough adults.
Some people actually appreciate cars in general, and aren't close-minded.

The first time I saw the STi in 1994 upon its introduction, I fell in love with it. It just looked really cool to me. In all honesty, I pretty much had my mind made up on an STi, even as I walked into the Mitsubishi dealership, but I figured I had to drive the competition "just in case." After the test drive, I contemplated my decision, and weighed out the pros and cons of each car, and I found that the STi really was the car for me.
I have no regrets about my decision. The only regret that I have is that I can't afford both of them.

Sometimes it's just best to ignore some people. Some people are just like mopeds. They spit and sputter until they run out of gas. Don't feed into the negative comments, because by doing so, you only aid them in ruining a good thread.
There's another thread that I'm currently participating in, and someone made some close-minded comments along the same line, and I just told him in a friendly way that his ignorance was shining through, and for now on he can type to himself. It's funny, because he keeps quoting my posts, only for them to go unanswered.
The sad part about it, is this guy's a "seasoned member," with over 3,000 posts under his belt. It just goes to show that post-count is not an accurate example of knowledge.
Sorry for the off-topic post, everyone.
