Test Drove a 9 MR..Quick Review

Ok fella's before anyone gets carried away here this is strictly my opinion of the car. Nice cool night tongiht probably in the low 30's so car ran awesome! This was my first time driving a 6 speed and I must say I prefer the 5 speed (too much shifting, nice short/precise throw though). I litterally beat the **** out of this poor car, I think the sales rep really believed that I was trading in mine TONIGHT LOL!!! Either way on to the good stuff. I have driven both the 03, 05, & now 06 MR stock. The 03 is obviously the weakest of the bunch, but the 05 was not much different in my opinion from the 9. The MIVEC is nice in the midrange, but not all it is cracked up to be. Smoother engagement from partial throttle to full not as violent. The car still falls on its face, especially at this elevation (6000 FT), above 5500 rpm. I really thought I could see myself trading eventually, but now I can honestly say I have no desire. I really think the 9 is the smoothest of the bunch to drive, stock, but the 05 was my favorite power band. Oh and for you guys that are wondering if they had mark up, yes they did but with a little work they were willing to sell for sticker. Oh the interior is definitely a bit nicer, in my opinion. The craziest part of this whole scenario was they didn't even ask for my license/insurance or anything. It's funny to see what you can do when you pull up in an EVO already. When I bought mine, same dealership, I had to practically give a urine sample to get it out. Not to mention the guy let me take it past 7K as often as I felt necessary. Anyway hope this helps someone looking to trade or buy a 9.

Thanks for the review. That is quite a salesman to let you take it past 7K... I just hope that whomever does end up buying that Evo believes in the Motoman break in method!

That is just wrong! That is why I look for the cars with 5 or less miles on them.

I agree but after I was done it only had 10 miles on it. I just think some sales guys are idiots.

That sucks for the guy who buys it. I just got a IX today and I couldn't even drive it until the keys were in my hand. It's good and bad at the same time.

same thing in my dealership they are always kissin my a** to trade in my 03 evo, especially whenever they find out mine is low mileage.... I love the new evo 9 and all as far as looks and the extra hp, but its just not enough to convince me to trade in my car. I wouldnt trade in my car yet and double my monthly payments, maybe I would consider getting a evo 9 when they do the 0 % financing next year before the evo x comes out....

You must be doing 80+ mph thru 150mph because 4gear 1.031 vs 1.1 and 5th gear .72 vs .87 and an addional 6th for the MR.

Congratulations too you! On being the biggest Jack*ss here. What an accomplishment ruining a perfectly good 06' MR like that! Wow!... I can't get over how cool you are. You have really convinced me too go buy that car you just thrashed. What dealership did you say you went too, that way everybody can be sure "NOT" to go there if they want to buy a new Evo. Thank you again for being so helpful.

I beat on all the cars I test drive. When I bought my EVO, I drove the horses out of the test mule. When we got back to the dealership, I told the sales guy I only wanted the showroom one with 1 mile on it. So what if he beat the horses out of it!!
