I also own both, and I definately think with someone who has more driving skills than myself the s2k would handle a little better. The Evo is much easier to drive though and I think thats why some of these people think it handles better. If you look at the survey results, they don't match what people are saying in general.

rwd's are more tunable, under/oversteer wise. this is also modulatable to a certain degree by the driver. on a dry track, they have the edge. There's the weight, of course. A minimum of one less diffreential and a pair of drive shafts means a lot. Fewer cogs and parts to turn make for greater efficiency. Better packaging is also a big plus; nothing to clutter up the front, lower front unsprung mass etc. Besides, modern electronics make sure that the shortcomings of 400+bhp to two wheels can be handles by your grand mother.

awd's have any other advantages you can think of. you're asking less from each wheel in general. sadly they tend to understeer (prolly depends on f/r torque split). Away from the track, it's really not an issue. On real roads, real surfaces and corners you don't know, awd is the way to go. always.

Let's not forget that Nissan's awd system was banned from the JGTC and Audi raced their quattro A4's in the BTCC successfully with a weight ballast (which were added cos they had awd!). Rallying took a quantum leap with awd, with 300bhp awd cars clocking the same time as 500bhp rwd cars. In summary, rwd has advantages in very particular situations where as awd is more of a general tool.

And finally, don't confuse good handling, speed, and entertainment value.

oh, and i'd say that with equally good drivers in stock cars on normal roads, the evo would be quicker. and easier to drive.

You guys, obviously, watched way too much Initial D and Top Gear.

This topic is meaningless. Both car handles and accelerates well. No need for this silly argument.

Remember, this is Evolution forum and you own an "EVO", not S2K

im sry my mommy and daddy didnt buy my car for me im paying for this my self. if money wasn't an option for me it would be one of the sickest evos out there. i would love to mod the crap out of it, but with car ins. cell phone, the car payment and other bills on a limited buget its gonna take some time and for the things that i did do it made a hell of a difference

read the origional poat again it says "stock suspention" right in there . im not saying anything bad, and i didnt care if the s2k won the poll i just wanted to see what everyone in here thought esp if you've driven them both. so this wasnt really a pointless post i mean really it started quite a debate really it almost did its job to well. lol

RWD (espacially on light chassis with good weight dist) is very hard to beat for fun to drive and speed around the track. hell, i have seen so many honda crx's and mazda miata's that were pulling insane times and beating vipers around the track. a good driver in a car like the s2000 can definatly give the evo a good fight and can also win if he knows the car and knows how to pilot it. most of the professional drivers and instructors i know will choose a well setup RWD car for the track.

and if you don't believe me, i recommand that you do what i did (what really thought me a lesson about this). go out to a track near your house and try to find someone with a RWD car that is properly setup (spec miata, s2000 boxters etc..) and than you will see what things like 50/50 weight balance and a good chassis do around the track.

damn, i keep making these long posts even though i know nobody reads them.. i really gotta stop doing this
I especially agree with you on that most Pro-drivers and Driving instructors that I know of drive 1)E36 M3, 2)Miata, 3) S2000, 4) Porsche Carrera and 5) A mini van/pickup. All are picked for the same reason: light weight, 50/50 W.D., Front engine RWD. except of course the last two.

But just bear in mind, guys, that most people who own an EVO also own a lightweight razor sharp roadster/convertible like the S2000 or Lotus Elise. It's a very common combo among car enthusiaists.

i read the original post and i never said that your post was pointless. you said: " thanks, finally a preson that dosent have something bad to say about a stock suspention car"

and i told you that throughout the thread, nobody said anything bad about stock suspension (either the EVO or the S2000).

also, i really couldn't care less who won the poll. let's be honest here, this is an evo board and we have a lot of members that truly beleive that the EVO is the greatest car in the world and that no other car can ever compare. some of us on the other hand, have no problem addmiting that the evo is a nice car but there are many cars out there who would kill it in many different conditions.

and yes, i see the FQ400 somewhere near the top but to me it is not a regular evo. it is a specail edition evo with HKS parts which makes it kinda of an outsider in that chart.
