Issue I had this morning with my new evo 9..
Early this morning doing my usual commute to work I deviated a little and went to the post office. Passing one of the intersection I hear the car rattling a bit in the back as if something was stuck under it. When I stopped at the post office I checked under the car and didn't see anything so I thought nothing of it. I then proceded to keep going and get into the LIE. Again, I kept hearing a low rattling noise going 20-30 mpgs so I stopped at the gas station before getting into the LIE. Sadly I found nothing wrong with the car or near the wheels. So I went into the LIE and started to go to work. Half way through the morning traffic jam I heard a loud POP
from the left hand side wheel.
I was in the middle of the 3 lanes and traffic was thick so I couldn't do much at the time. Everyone was going about 60mph but there were too many trucks to the back and side of me.
But the wierdest thing is that the rattling noise stopped once and for all even if I went faster than 50 mph. Pissed and nervous about my baby that I just finally reach 1013 miles on her I got to work. When I parked the car at work I noticed the left hand side back wheel had a little bit of white smoke coming from it. I was smoking for a couple of seconds and none of my other wheels had any signs of smoke.
After work I'm going to see how the car drives at low speeds and high. Also, just to note I had the ACD set to gravel all the way up to the LIE when I switched it to tarmac. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the more information the better. Hopefully nothing messed up on my car because I would hate to take it to the dealer. Has anyone experienced this before

Well, since your problem seems kinda vague, but I used to hear pops coming from the right or left from 2 things:
1. your shocks are blown somehow
2. my awd eclipse rear diff had play in it, so you might have it too
3. probably nothing?
anyhow, congrats on the ix

Did your car feel sluggish at all? It may have been the parking brake. If the spring to retract it came off it could open and close, making a ticking sound. It could also produce a lot of heat and the white smoke you saw. Just get the car to a dealership so they can look it over.

Get that thing towed to the dealership now. DO not pass go, do not collect $200. IF (and I did say IF) something is binding, back there, you could have a potentially dangerous problem on your hands. It almost sounds like something is trying to lock up if only the one wheel is smoking. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell what it is without actually getting my hands on it. Either way, it would be better to have them look at it now, before the problem potentially gets worse.

Going to take it tonight to the dealer. Can't do anything while I'm at work right now. Also, after that pop the rattling noise stopped and I never had any issues with the braking system. The breaks are working 100% for what I can tell. I think either there was something stuck and hitting the under carriage and I couldn't see it
It was dark in the morning so I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with it. Ohh and Arkow I got mine from Smithtown Mitsubishi. Ask for rob he was really helpful. Phone #631-366-0600
