Bad Oem parts?

About a month back, I had to get my trunk replaced because of an accident I got into. After about a week, I got the car back and the space between my trunk and body, when its closed, seemed to be a little off. I didn't mind too much at first because I was just glad to have the thing back but after a while, I noticed the space was way too big (I can almost get my index finger through). I thought it might be just how the trunk was aligned but after a few hours of messing with the mounting bolts and rubber spacers, I'm starting to think that the trunk itself is a tad too narrow. What do you do if you suspect you have a lemon oem part? Do bad oem parts even exist? (I'm going to the body shop tomorrow to see what they say... Hopefully they can fix it or give me a new trunk...)

I would think that it's more likely that your bumper mounts are slightly bent down, but without a location of the excess gap and details on the accident I'd be hard pressed to do better than a guess.

My buddys Evo had this problem. He had to have the rear bumper replaced. His trunk was way off and they tried to align it but nothin. So they said the bumper wasnt sittin flush like it was suppose to be so they had to take it back off and realigned it.

I noticed a gap like that on a stock/new Evo the other day for the first time, but I don't think it was as big as yours. Since the car has been in an accident, it is hard to tell where to start.

What does the other side look like, can you split the dif. Open the trunk, and shove it
over than move striker on rear body panel toward the side with the big gap.
OR you could bring it back to ever fixed it. As long as the other side is smaller
it should only take a couple of min. to make right.

I have noticed this problem as well with "new oem" parts. I got a new gas lid, it was different than the stock on in a couple ways..very weird..

the other side juts out a little and COULD be passed off as normal... which is why I think the trunk is too small.. if the gap on the one side was that large and the trunk was the right size, it would be logical that the other side's gap be very small, right?

Are the gaps even? Since you said you tried to align it I am going to assume that they are. If so it's possible that the body shop got a cheap imitation part to save money. If you know some one with a evo, just take a tape measure a compare the two. Anyways, I would take it back to the shop since the didn't do a complete repair. The car should be repaired to fatory condition.
