Overnight at the dealership
Overnight at the dealership
I'm going to be getting some of the "extra packages" i got with my car installed at Brad Benson Mitsu where I purchased the car. I can't drop the car off in the morning because I work 9-5, so an option they gave me was to bring the car at night and pick it up the next day after work.
My question is .. Is it wise/trustworthy to leave the car with the dealership overnight? I'm being maticulous about this because the day I purchased the car, I noticed that it only had 9-10 miles. After the papers were signed, the salesguy said that he's going to brb to fill the tank with gas. When he came back, the car then had 21miles and it was the only time I noticed the car idle around 1,100-200 rpm that day. So i'm guessing they had some fun with the car before handing it over to me.
Should I leave it there, or just take off work?
Anybody with similar experiences?

This is always a frustrating part of buying a new performance car. I was told that as part of the PDI process it's normal for a tech to take the car on a test drive. I still don't like it. Some dealers are more sympathetic and if you tell them you don't even want the mechanic taking it out they'll accomodate you. My car was at a dealer that was 35 miles away from the one I bought from. I wouldn't let them drive it down and insisted on picking it up myself.
Drop it off. Make sure in the computer your name is linked to 'No test drive without customer present'. Done deal.
At the very least suggest the head tech is the ONLY one allowed to test drive after any work that should require a test drive.
Im quite **** with my cars, have the tech note lack of wheel rash, dings, dents whenever I take the BMW, Lexus and Evo (not thats shes been to the dealer yet) in for work. I have seen crazy stuff happen, no dealer is perfect and no dealer has 100% control over their employees.

I can't speak to this dealer specifically, but sometimes in life in order to prevent yourself from going insane you have to trust people. Get to know the tech who works on the evos. He's probably a cool dude, and this might ease your mind a little. I'm sure he has no interest in harming your car in any way. I also doubt a sales guy will ever touch your car again; just the service guys/gals.

Should I risk it, and keep track of the ODO, as a way to see if they drive the car or not? Or just take off work, and wait at the dealership?
I'll IM you later, no AIM at work.

QuickSilver, I bought a used '03 Evo from their dealership a little while ago, it was there for service for trans and they left it outside over night and 2 (including mine) of them were broken into on the lot. They repaired all the damage but it delayed the time it took for me to get it back. If your going to leave it there over night make sure you ask them if they lock it in the service bay at night.

and looks like
then why taste it because it is probably
!I would take it to another dealership! Get on the regional forums and see if someone could direct you to another dealership!
The sales person was probably guilty of driving your EVO a little further than he needed to! You should have gone with him!
Best regards,
One of the things that needs to be installed is Lojack. It's already been paid for, so they said I can't take it to another dealership closer to home.
btw, nice car farmer!

Write down the miles on a sheet of paper when you go there, have the service guy sign + date it. That way if it's over 5 miles from when you handed it over, you know something's fishy. Is it a legal document? No, but it will help if something were to happen to your car.
