The evo with blizzack ws-50 tires is amazing in the snow. That being said, I think its a terrible setup to learn to drive in the snow. There is so much traction that when the car does get loose you're going much faster and things get out of wack fast. I suggest learning in a rear wheel drive car if you have one avaiable. Learn to use the throttle to turn the vehicle. Other than that just keep playing around in the snow to learn how the car reacts to the snow/ice variations. Don't try this right away, but learn to use the parking brake to turn the car for tight turns.
I took my evo out in the snowstorm last night and had a blast.....I thought I liked the car before, but now I love it.

The key to driving in the snow?

Be SMOOOOOOTH!

Jerky rapid changes (brake, gas, or turning the wheel) will get you into trouble.

Well, something that has not been mentioned yet and that you probably will not figure out on your own while playing around in an empty parking lot... your emergency brake.

Sometimes, you just can't turn in time no matter how hard you try... this is when the e-brake becomes invaluable. It has saved me from accidents twice. What you do in this emergency situation is that you crank your wheels slightly in the direction that you wish to turn and pull on the e-brake enough to lock the rear wheels. As your rear wheels start sliding out, let go of the e-brake and gently press the gas. You can do almost 90 degree turns very quickly with this method.

Warning: Use only in emergencies when nothing else will work. It is very hard to do correctly. Practice in an empty parking lot.

and go out and practice in big parking lots as others said, most people wreck in the snow and any slick situation because they do not know how to react properly. I spent about 2 hours in my old high school parking lot practicing (mostly having fun). If a cop stops by and asks you what you are doing just tell him the truth. If he gives you a ticket, he is a total d!ck

Another warning that is VERY serious: Do NOT do this maneuver if you will be presenting the side of your car to an oncoming hit. You do not want to get hit while you are sideways, especially in the driver's side door.

I had to drive in the snow w/ the stock advans on today. Worked nights and had to drive home this morning.

Was doing great and thought all the rumors of how crappy advans were in the snow were over-hyped. 2 min from my house, the road was all slush, I spinned out and literally almost hit a tree.

Glad no car was coming in the opposite lane, I would of hit them. I almost did a 360 in the road. Probably a 300!

Watch the ABS system. It sucks if you start to slide the least little bit your breaks won't work. Use your gears to help slow you down, but make sure to give yourself plenty of room.

drive fast and crash hard haha just joking. Any car can be driven in the snow. I had a mk3 GTI vr6 with a bent rare fame and snow tires in the front and steel belts showing in the back adn everytime I would even turn the wheel the *** end would blow side ways, Had a few close calls last winter but this winter advans in the snow and I don't have a problem because it is easy to power out of slides. I feel No ABS helps too.

Talking

I recently bought the Yokohama IceGuard snow tires. It is fun driving in the snow and on dry pavment. They are kinda soft, so when its dry you can literally drift every corner, and is FUN... but when it comes to snow... those tires are fricken amazing. I drive without the fear of getting in a ditch, or hitting a tree... or a light post.... haha.
as far as tips... try not to make ur car look like mine was last night at 1 am. Church parking lots rock!
