Year in the life of my EVO........

Well, a year a passed sinced I drove away with my used 15K Miles 2003 Silver EVO. The car felt awsome with plenty of power and cornering abilities, run sweet and used alot less gas then my previous SVT Lightning truck. The car know has 26K Miles on it.

Then the nightmares started........ Over the last year my vehicle has been in the local Dealers over 20 times with the following issues

Warped Front Rotors
Oil Leak - Oil cooler Pipes
Steering Column Play, due to missing clip - replaced steering column
Turn Signal Not working (After Steeing Column Change)
Transmission Change Down Noise - changed transmission oil
Turn Signal Not working and Air Bag Not Straight (After Steeing Column Change)
Oil Leak - Oil pump seal
Transmission Change Down Noise - Idler TSB
Clutch Judder - Could not diagnose
Turn Signal Not working and Air Bag Not Straight (After Steeing Column Change)
Broken Air Box - Dealership damaged
Noise when Clutch Engaged - New clutch (my expense)
Oil Pan Leak - Resealed oil pan
Oil Leak - Balance shaft seal
Oil Leak - could not diagnose
Bolt Missing in Rear Engine mount - Dealership forgot to refit it
Oil Leak - Oil Sender unit
Missing DP to Manifold bolt - Dealership forgot to refit it
Turn Signal Not working and Air Bag Not Straight (After Steeing Column Change)
Oil Leak - Put PTFE tape around oil switch
Oil Leak - Oil Pan or Rear main ( dealership are not sure) - still pending
Turn Signal Replacement - still pending

Yesterday I took the vehicle to the Dealership to fix another oil leak and not only did they not fix it the dipsh#ts test drove the vehicle yesterday and drove my car into their Shuttle car (we had snow). They smashed my CF Hood, headlight (HID) and front Bumper ($2500 damage). And still I have a F@#%in oil leak. The problem is they are the only Dealership in the area, so I am stuffed.

I am just sharing my pain and I still love driving the car, but come on. Is this typical of what goes wrong with the Evo's over a year?

Wow, that's scary. My Evo is about the same age/miles as yours. Just about to my 30K service. If crap like that started happening to me, I'd sell without a second thought.

Evo's are great vehicles, but I would check how competent the Mechanics are at Dealerships, as most of the issues I had above are negligence and /or incorrect diagnosis.

The other Dealerships are like 100 miles away. I actually bought the vehicle off this dealership Also, they keep asking me to trade it for a Evo IX Mr they have, but its like $36,850 and they will only give me around $21K for mine. Also I would not like the thought of them even servicing the car.

You have one of 2 problems:

1) The place that services your car doesn't know their head from a hole in the ground. Either find a new dealership, or some shop that specializes in imports and go there.

2) Your car is a lemon.

I've NEVER heard of this many problems with an Evo before. My winter Evo has over 55,000 miles on it, stock clutch, not a DROP of oil leaking and it's been totalled out once!

If they'll give you 21k trade it for a regular IX. As far as servicing you need to find a good mechanic at a local shop and stop going to that dealership.

I purchased off of this forum here:

YOUR CAR doesn't really seem to have that many problems. And the ones you do have you could have fixed yourself in less than an hour. The steering column is the only one that should have been warranty covered and I'm not sure why you would pick the car up if it hadn't been fixed right the first time. I'm not ripping on you but seriously....bolts and oil leaks are things you could have done with the car jacked up in the air on your garage floor. We have a warranty but sometimes its not worth the trouble and better to just fix it right yourself.

Yea I have never once seen an evo with that many problems in such a short period of time. Your car could definitely be eligible for lemon law.

Yes, I do agree with Jeff Jeske about fixing minor stuff myself and have done on numerous occasions. But , the oil leaks I have not got the tools for, or if I took them to a good mechanic would be out of my pocket. Also the leaks iI have had seem to go away for a few days then come back and they seem to forget to refit things that they took off previously.

Isn't lemon law just for new vehicles?

2003 24K only problem with the car was a sound coming from the drivers side seat belt pillar area. No leaks and has been significantly modded since day one. Clutch did go out at 20K, but that is it. That sucks man I would sell it and get a new one.
