the evo clutches aren't that bad. If the RPM's climb and then drop under acceleration the clutch is slipping. I have 21k on my stock 05 clutch with no problems whatsoever.

If you floor it in 2nd or 3rd gear and ur rpms jump before you feel the boost then your clutch is going out. If you don't then you are in good shape.

Actually, it should be done in top gear. It's much less likely to happen in lower gears with less load. You need to floor it from low RPM in top gear. The clutch will slip when you reach peak torque if it slips at all.

Yeah like wartalon said floor it in 4th or 5th gear at slow speeds if the rpms rev normal till about 5000rpms then your good if you see it fluctuating the needle will jump a bit and then resettle and still pull, or if its already bad it will just shoot for the rev limiter.

i have heard to see if you need a new clutch you can

1. find an empty street
2. clutch in and put car into 5th gear
3. rev motor to 5k RPMs
4. drop clutch

now if the clutch is still good then the car should stall and die right away and if the clutch just slips and doesn't kill the car then its going out.

not sure how good of a test that is though but it seems true.

From: Wherever is clever

I just got my IX the other week. Still breaking it in, currently have 300 miles so far.

But today I messed up. My cellfone was ringing while I was at a red light then turned green. So I was distracted and I accidently shifted into 3rd gear instead of first. RPMS jumped up really high while the car tried to accelerate. I also heard a loud clanking sound and soon after, I could smell the clutch

Anyone think I messed up the clutch bad? Or should I just move on and NOT make any more mistakes

do not do this, the last thing you want to do if you think your clutch is going is try to launch the car.

that's about the worst piece of advice I've read on this forum yet. Do not do this!

what you do is put it in top gear while "idling" not "launching" let the clutch out slow and the car should die once engaged. If it doesn't its slipping and going out.
