What I'm confused by is why the shop recommended this to you on an Evo and why you agreed to do it without coming here and researching first or to find out what mods are actually worth your money. there is absolutely no reason to have gone through all this trouble when you haven't even done cams yet, so regardless of what the shop recommended, it still comes back to your agreeing to do it.

What are you trying to accomplish...what are your goals?
Slow down there buddy. Take it easy on this guy. Maybe he did these things because he wished to be different and didnt feel like taking the cookie cutter approach to building an evo. Different strokes for different folks. Furthermore, maybe he was unaware of this board and all the information it possesses. Also, what qualifies you to be the expert of tuning an Evo and making big power with the mods? If you think a Power FC is the wrong standalone for speed density, I think you're mistaken. A good friend of mine owns the highest horsepower SR20 motor in the US, tuned with a Power FC.

1) If he wished to be different, he would have said that. He only did these things because the shop recommended it, and he even said he doesn't understand why they recommended it. Read all of the comments before chastising me.

2) He wasn't unaware of the board. He immediately came to us and asked what we thought of the tune, since he was not particularly pleased. PS. Join date: Sep 2004.

3) What qualifies me to be the expert of tuning an Evo? Well, I'm not an expert and never claimed to be, but I think I've proven I know how to make good power with little money, little hassle, and little time spent. We aren't talking big power here, anyway...we are talking basic bolt-ons gone awry.

4) I didn't say the Power FC was not good for speed density, but this guy doesn't know how to use it or tune it ,and the shop that did this doesn't seem to know much either. I don't see what an SR20 has to do with anything...we have different cars that respond differently to tuning devices and mod combinations. I'm sure you knew that already.

u know i think people should get a warning for jumping down warrtalon's throat everytime he makes a suggestion. Its getting rediculous because after he makes a suggestion, someone will say, what makes u the expert, how do u know thats right. Hey warrtalon, use a different username, respond the exact same way u always have and watch how smart everyone thinks this new guy is!

As far as ur tune is concerned, i thought i saw buschur cat-back not tbe, so thats cool. good luck with ur car, not the road most taken, but i never felt that was a good thing!

I'd take the advise of everyone on the board, then put it in your pipe and smoke it. Let in marinate in you mind for a while and then come back and show us pics of your new set up!

1. Assumption, and I did read the whole thread before replying.
2. Join dates mean nothing to me. I've been a member of a board since 2001 and made a total of 5 posts.
3. I would consider a Power FC to be as much a "bolt on" as AEM's EMS to be plug and play.
4. Different mod combinations and tuning devices? What a cop out. I bet I could take out my EMS and put in a Power FC and make the same power. This intake is better than that one. My air filter works better with a UTEC than it does an EMS. These products make the most power because they were developed in conjunction with this and that blah blah blah. Seriously, if you believe any of that crap then I'm sorry for you.

I didn't assume anything. He said it himself:
"With the buschur and the stock intake, correct me if I am wrong, the BOV recirculates back into the intake. The new custon one just vents right from the UIC pipe to the atmosphere.
I am not sure what this does or if it is better.
I also dont really know why the shop is making the suggestions they makeon the upgrades for the car."

Oh well, he has been here a while and knows that this resource is available. He's asked a question before and came to ask this one directly after his lower-than-expected results. He could have saved a ton of time, money, and disappointment by asking us BEFORE taking this shop's advice.

Exactly my point and why I said "bolt-ons gone awry," because he has nothing but simply bolt-ons...and then a Power FC that is by no means necessary and obviously not very helpful at this juncture. He could have a flash, some regular mods, and little money spent for 300whp/wtq on a Dynojet on a perfectly-running car that hasn't been changed to speed density for no reason.

I have no idea what you're saying here or how it's relevant to the discussion. His mods and a Power FC are not efficient on an Evo. The proper setup with a Power FC may make huge power on some other car, but not this combo on this car. I can't even see how that could be argued.

Warrtalon is correct. Given the mods that the guy has, there is no need for a power FC. We know from experience that the stock intake is fine and all you need is maybe a K&N filter. We know that the best RV is the JDM MR one, so why get something else. The JDM MR DV holds power just fine given the mods that this guy has.

So my advice to this young man is:
1. Go back to the stock intake with the MAF
2. Use a JDM MR DV. You can now get an 06 one from the dealer or you can buy it here for $105
3. Get a good dyno tuned flash.

That should give you the numbers that you had hoped for.

Actually I've seen a fully tuned power fc get replaced with an AEM unit and gain 50whp.

So I'm thinking I have gotten into a little predicament wiht my mods right now.
I was wondering, with what I have right now, what is my best next step.
Sell, scrap, or replace parts, or go from right here or what?
Im ready to learn, because right now, I'm pretty confused on where to go from here.

I think you would be very happy with a simple return to the stock intake, then toss in a Walbro fuel pump and get a mail-in Dynoflash ($199). Your other mods are just fine and will work great. If you sell that custom intake and sell the Power FC, you will end up with very little money lost as long as you still have all the stock intake pieces. Then, even if you want to put on a Buschur intake filter or something, you'd still be in good shape without much money spent.

From here, your next step would be cams and an LICP.
