ign evo 9 review
Mitsubishi Evo 9 (2006)
We've said it before, and we'll say it again: Best. Car. Ever.
by Justin Kaehler
November 23, 2005 - It's no secret that we love the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Out of all the cars we've ever driven, the rally-bred Evo sedan provides us with the best, most connected, most responsive, "purest" driving experience. Sure, we've driven faster cars (such as the Ford GT), but none of them can make the driver feel like a hero the way an Evo can.
We've already written a lot on the Evo; we've been behind the wheel of this budget supercar 3 times since June. For a more in-depth look at this Lancer on steroids, click here to read our review of the Evo 8 MR and click here to read our impressions on driving the Evo 9 RS at Laguna Seca. Between those two articles, we've pretty much covered all that is awesome with the Evo. In fact, it's gonna be hard to write anything new about the car, because the driving experience really hasn't changed for 2006.
By this time, we're sure that a lot of you readers are wondering why we would pick up another Evo if we can't write any new content about it. Well, the car is just too damn awesome. Spend any amount of time behind the wheel of an Evo and you will fall in love. We don't care if you are a truck guy, a domestic guy or a blinged-out DUB guy, you will love driving the Evo. Try as you might, you will be unable to resist the pure driving pleasure this car brings. Sure, you may never want to pony up the cash to buy your own Evo, but you will long to drive the car again.
Such was the case for us. Mitsubishi's representatives called us up and asked us if we'd like to take the newest Evo, the Evolution 9 for a couple of weeks. We could have politely declined the offer, but that would have been sheer stupidity. Again we love this car, and we'll do whatever it takes to drive it as much as possible.

Here's all you need to know about the driving experience: acceleration is strong and immediate and the steering feels like it's connected to your brain. Just mash on the gas and the car goes -- and quickly at that. The 286 horsepower turbocharged four banger will throw you into the back of your seat. The steering is super-quick, too. In fact, it will take most drivers a day or two to get used to the way the car drives. There's no "play" or "dead spot", so one really can't cruise along and eat/talk on the phone/whatever while driving this car. You turn the wheel even just a little bit, the Evo immediately responds. We love it.
This newest Evo was track-tested at the Nurburgring, so the car feels most at home when it's either going really fast, driving through some "twisties", or while driving through the "twisties" really fast. At slower speeds, the Evo has a rough ride, and it will most definitely **** off your girlfriend or make her sick. But who cares about her? If she wants a more comfortable ride, she can drive her own damn car.
