if we bought one of these and went to be inspected would we fail emissions or is it legal to install these, during regular driving?

There's no reason you would fail emissions due to the cut-out, cuz you can just close it up and run the stock exhaust (equipped with cat/muffler, etc).

I don't understand how weight is really an issue. I don't think adding 40 pounds will be noticable enough to signficantly hurt performance.

Well, when you weigh 155lbs, an additional 40lbs will put you on par with a 200lb guy . I think people who get leaks are the people who open their butterflies upon wide open throttle.

I really didn't say this is a solution for every Evo owner. It's definitely something I'm interested in, and I'm not out to create the lightest Evo.

I guess you could just run the stock exhaust system and then use this downpipe at the track.

Although most electronic cutouts have a reputation of breaking or leaking.. I don't see much reason to use this for most people.
I have a quick time performance down pipe on my wifes WRX along with the bone stock cat back system. Almost as quiet as stock with the cutout valve shut, louder than all the deamons of hell trying to bust down your door with the cutout valve open

I was able to show a 20 HP difference in power on Godspeed's AWD dynapack dyno between having the cutout open or closed on my wifes car.

Keep in mind that is with the restrictive stock cat back and muffler on her car. With a free flowing catless system I would expect to see little or no gain in power from it.

Keith

PS: No leaks or problems with my wifes car so far. Been on there for a couple months now with no issues.

Considering that the cutout weighs about 3 lbs I am extreamly confused by your post.

Another cutout post... these are a dime a dozen.

I don't see why it took/taking so long for QTP to fabricate a downpipe that utualizes their cutout... I've had one for about a year now.

Also, there's no way in bloody hell that an electronic cut-out system is going to weigh 40lbs.

Probably better if you call them up. It took them weeks to answer my email.
