Just drove a new IX...

With the IX though, the power potential on the stock turbo is so much greater. Some faster Evo VIIIs still on a 16G are trapping 117-120 with race gas. Getting into the 11s comfortably is going to take a little more HP than it does with an VIII (although the increased power with the bigger turbo and the extra low end punch from Mivec might help offset that).
I know that my car really lays down when I upshift to fifth. The IX fifth is shorter, but so is its 4th, so there is still a gigantic gap from 4th to 5th (a 47mph jump, in fact). **This is much less of a problem in the MR, as the 5th gear is much shorter, with a ratio that is much less of a death sentence than the 5 speed 5th gears. At some point fairly early in the upgrade process, its going to be a problem for the 5 speed cars, trust me.

Yep, in reference to the 5spd having major problems with 4th and then 5th when racing, I have pointed this out in other threads when helping people decide what to pick. I am worried that the IX will have trouble road racing, because once it gets over 110mph, it's going to be in overdrive. The VIIIs could get up to 120mph in 4th pretty easily, but now they have to shift 10mph earlier, and that could be trouble. The MR in the past had the limitation, but it seems to be better now, because it's 5th gear is powerful and very useful for road racing. I found that out first hand when I used 5th to go from ~107mph to 135mph on the straightaway at Summit Point.

MSRP and what they actually pay for the car- what's so hard to understand?

I bought a five speed EVO just for the above reason. I have not tested the EVO at WSIR, but I really doubt that I can stay in 4th since the EVO will hit 120 mph easy on the front and back straights of that track.
I drove another 5 speed 04 EVO RS at Buttonwillow and the car stayed in 4th gear around the entire track. That sold me on the 5 speed.
