I month Update on my EVO IX.

IXs generally put down 20-25whp more than 05s. For instance, I have seen several do 270-275 on a Dynojet, and I put down 248 on a Dynojet. I've seen 265-275 on most IXs and 240-250 on most 05s.
I've had my Evo IX w/SSL for 3 weeks, here's my take:
1) It's infinitely better than any DSM I've ever owned. More refined, better looking, more rear seat room, 4 doors instead of 2, better seats, more power (stock), SUPERIOR steering and brakes, slightly better shifter and trans feel (however 5th is too short), HIDs (love that they're adjustble), OEM fmic, better stock turbo (basically an improved cheater 20G), nice light wheels, solid sports suspension and INCREDIBLE drivetrain featuring lsds where they're supposed to be.
2) My MPG is averaging about 16. This is on the first tank of gas as I don't have winter tires yet and it's been snowing a lot so the Evo is seeing garage time...
3) For me, the suspension is pretty ideal. I've tried the coil overs and spring kits on previous cars, and I find the Evo to be a nice balance between performance and comfort. I don't think I'd like it if the suspension were any stiffer.
4) The car handles more like a rwd, ie oversteers, which is an amazing achievement. Being able to stick out the rear and drift is pretty sweet and useful. I don't notice an aweful lot of handling difference with the ACD settings, maybe I don't drift/slide long enough.
5) Having test-driven an STi, I don't see how anyone would opt for the Subaru. Besides the interior being much more refined on the IX over the STi, the steering response alone would make any serious driver head for Mitsu...
6) If there is one thing I will need to improve, it's power. Yes, the power is more linear than an VII/VIII and the area under the curve is likely improved, but I don't think the torque is adequate for my butt dyno. Looking at some of the flash vendor's results however makes me worry about that much less
I think for the money it's the best you can buy, just like the dsm was in the 90s. And that's something Mitsubishi can be proud of.

imo the IX exhaust is much louder stock for stock with the VIII. Did you have a aftermarket exhaust on your 8 ever?

I am hearing it is more free flowing than the stock VIII's but whatever it is, its quieter, I can vouch for that. Second, I know its not a performace thing, but I am averaging 20MPG in the city with this car, and its not even broke in yet, my VIII averaged 17mpg broke in! I think the MIVEC is helping out big time on the MPG. Its an issure here in California where 91 octane **** gas runs $3 a gallon. You definately can tell the difference in gear ratios. I drove my friends VIII the other day just as a refresher since I have not had my VIII for almost 2 yrs. In 5th, the IX runs about 3200rpm @ 70mph and in the VIII its about 2900. So the gearing is shorter for sure, which IMO also makes the car seem quicker.
Now on the other side, I do like how the VIII came with HID's and foglights stock, and now they are Optional, unless you get the MR then they are stock. My buddy that still has the VIII was bragging how he still has a intercooler sprayer, and I really couldn't give him a reason why
took it out, but only thing I could say is, they must not need it anymore? I trust
they know what they are doing when it comes to the EVO so I am sure they took it out for a reason, and I sure it wasn't just cost.
I have many people compliment me on the new car, even older folks seem to like this car vs. the VIII people saw as just a ricemobile. I do feel the car evenwith its simple changes to the outside, just makes the car look fancier. By others saying the same just proves it. The smoked lenses front and rear, the new rims, the new front end, the interior, just all makes it look fancier. I will take an VIII anyday don't get me wrong, but the IX just has a more exspensive look and when your spending 30K on a car, that is a nice feeling.
I have had many friends trying to get me to use various different synthetics when it comes to my first oil change, I only have about 700 miles on it, when it hits 1000 I will dump the factory fill. I have used so many different synthetics in the past that I feel the MOBIL 1 it came with is just fine. I used Amsoil in my VIII, Royal purple, Torco, and Redline in other cars, and noticed no difference at all. So I guess I will just stick with the Mobil.
My friend and I are gong to get the Car Dynoed in El Cajon, CA soon as it has a couple of thousand miles on it, so if there are any people from the Imperial Valley or San Diego, CA that want to join in, we can get the cost down cheaper if we do a group thing. So Let me know guys and gals..........Nice talking to ya........Till next time................Jeff

try this, find a nice sweeping bend which you can get speed up to and setup a turn, hit the turn and almost full lock oversteer your car under boost. You'll feel the *** end swing out then gently correct (not too quickly) so as not to snap the rear wheels because of the sudden weight transfer.
Sti/wrx owners watch with envy! Love it!
You'll be a drift demon in no time and yes, sometimes the beast can be hard to tame and scary
