How do you know it expands too easily? Do you drive around at full boost with the hood removed? Upgrading to Upper IC pipes provides no gains - just the lower IC pipe helps. To answer your question, no, I don't think it's worth it.

Stock intake with stock filter = best performance, least expense for well over 400 whp....

Intakes, fancy filters = throwing $$$ away or even driveability/power losses

I had the upper IC pipe, got rid of it. DO have the AMS lower ic pipe. I had my wife under the hood looking for the expansion of the intake "ribbed pipe", and it was expanding at 80 mph, then her hair got stuck in the radiator fan, and we had to "scrap the experiment".

Warrtalon,
I had the hood up and worked the throttle by hand and watched it expand. I just don't like the rubber hose and am used to all aluminum on my Superduty TD, which is a totally different animal. I know on my SD, the two best things you can do is get more air in and get more exhaust out, then you can increase the fuel. Just by chipping it(fuel delivery, timing, pulse, etc), Free flowing exhaust and an AM intake made a huge difference, of about 430-440 RWHP, compared to 275 RWHP. I'll have to strongly consider your perspective. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Merry Christmas & happy new Yaers to you guys!!!!

Different vehicle. On DSMs, one of the first thing we upgraded was the UICP, but that isn't the case on the Evo. You work the throttle by hand when not under boost, yet notice significant expansion? That's strange. I see mine fill slightly, but it's definitely not something that would have me running to purchase some IC pipes.

thanks
the stock airbox is actually good for up to 400whp. if you want a nicer look, get either the HKS Kansai CF airbox, or the Monster Sport CF airbox. those units allow you to run any aftermarket cone filter you want. or you could just run a panel filter. either way is best if you're not looking to do a turbo upgrade. it also will work better in the heat than a cone setup...

Yeah try it on yours, you'll be suprised. Maybe it's not enogh to cause a perf issue, but it does seem like a week link. I'm probably making more of it than I should be. What are some other mods that would work well with my current mods, without installing anything other than bolt ons(ie. intakes,IC pipes, fuel tuning devices.etc.), i'm having it re-tuned next month by al. My wife gave my some of my own money for Christmas to do some modifying, other than that I don't do anything till I pay off the car.

Any links for the HKS airbox?

Just the things in my sig - no intakes or UICP are needed. Use your money wisely.

i'm surprised u say this wartalon. buschur has an UICP that eliminates 6 bends/16" of restriction. you don't think this will help with the stock turbo or are you saying it will with an aftermarket turbo? just curious to what you mean when u say "no intake or UICP are needed". i would think if u used the buschur UICP in conjunction with their LICP and deluxe fmic you would see some gains. maybe some of these guys could get a great deal from buschur with their sale goin their deluxe fmic kit and their UICP.

I'm only referring to the stock turbo. Generally, the UICP is not a useful upgrade for the money. Buschur's is a nice piece that works well, but the biggest gains, imo, come from the LICP. An FMIC is also not the most useful item, especially at such a high cost...again, that's just on the stock turbo.

I just put on my Buschur intake on a completely stock 2003 VIII. I do feel a difference in faster spool-up and top end power. It's nothing mind blowing, but I can definately feel the engine pulling harder.

And I do like the sound
