I use to have an utometer gauge on my WRX, I was putting 20PSI on a FP18G turbo, I took my car to www.dyno-comp.com for a tunning and when they connected the lines to the Dyno-Dynamic Dyno computer I was at 18PSI, that means that my autometer was reading 2 psi more which sounds consistent with what I heard from other people.
How did you determine the difference? Did you put in a T fitting and look at both boost gauges at the same time? I would be surprised at such a huge pressure differential. I would think that all boost gauge manufacturers calibrate their pressure sensors. But if you ran both next to each other from the same (T'd) boost line, then clearly I'm wrong.

You are sticking with DEFI???
From my experience (and that of friends) Defi gauges ALWAYS over-read. That is, it will display higher boost than 'actual'.
Now of course there are differing views what defines 'actual' boost. These are the sources from which I compare the boost reading (against Defi):
- onboard diagnostics
- mechanical boost gauges
- digital readout on electronic boost controller
