evo internals pretty strong then?

hey, im interested in getting an evo here in Australia, not many around, actually ive never seen one on the streets.

But now the price is down to STi levels, i want to get one as soon as i sell my car, as theres not many evo members or clubs here in australia i was hoping to post here asking wether the EVO's stock internals are strong .. by that i mean how much more extra power can i extract out of the engine before things go wrong?

also, i just want to check wether it has forged pistons?

Sorry for the noob questions,
i really like the car, theres like 20,000 to 1 STi to evo ratio where i live. haha. I think as soon as ppl here see the potential of the evo there will be a huge shift.

Thanks.
j.

the evo stock internals can go up to around 500 horsepower to the wheels!

Exact numbers i'm not sure about but it can take you a long ways or with a little bad luck, none. I had 8,000 miles on my stock 05 Evo and blew a rod into pieces. With my new engine in and a good amount of upgrades for AutoXing, i've yet to run into trouble and am sure THIS engine could handle much more. I'll let someone with experience tell you and not "well this one guy i know, or.. I've read about this one evo"

Yes, it is true. Please search for this. Whenever you write, "I know this is a noobie question, but..." that's an indication that you should search first or maybe post in the Newbie section.

The best way to get info here is to spend plenty of time searching while learning to fine-tune the advanced search feature, then take all that knowledge and formulate a specific question that is somewhat educated. You just blurted out your questions without any effort whatsoever.

Yes, the pistons are forged.

Sure thing. I am happy to help, but I just ask for some effort on the part of those who I help. There is much to learn, and you will be giddy once you realize just how awesome the 4G63t engine is. Put it this way...your stock turbo cannot being to produce enough power to push the engine to its limits even though the stock turbo can produce 400whp (on VIIIs) and possibly much more on the IX.

The block on the Evo is very strong, the cylinder head flows tons of air, unlike the WRX/STI the turbo manifold on the 4G63 is much better positioned therefore reducing lag and giving it the posibility of higher boost.

On the WRX the turbo is way behind and exhaust gases from the two cylinders on the right(facing the car) must travel a huge distance(about5 feet) just to spool the turbo.

The Evo also has a privilege spot for the intercooler, right in the front of the car and completely unobstructed.

Last but not least, the turbo, this turbo is choosen in the NASIOC forum to be the best turboall around for a 4 cylinder car ever made, it is truly amazing how much this turbo can boost and how fast it will spool .
The stock Mitsubishi 16G on the Evo flows somewhere around 550cfm while a stock WRX turbo does around 360cfm, that is a big difference..

A lot of people including myself are boosting over 22PSI and peaking somtimes 28psi and 30psi and if you ask me, that is a lot of boost

You can't go wrong with the Evo..

i made 558 awhp on pump gas with meth injection on completely stock motor besides cams and headbolts, stock intake manifold, stock throttle body and everything.... and i rev'd it all day to 8500 rpms...keep in mind i trapped 129mph with 498 awhp so thats big power..... to say " strong" is a understatement!!

wow evodave, i knew you were making good power, but thats rediculous. Do you have any idea how many miles were on that motor when it finally let go?

Im sure you can do so more on your new motor too!!

nah they didn't let go because of the power. The meth. injection control box took a crap at 28 psi and BAM cracked a piston and it melted in the head and stuff.... we rebuilt the motor in 10 hours with a used piston/rod/valve set and then made more HP ( 511 at only 26psi at ONLY 9 degrees advanced timing and a/fs in the 10.5:1 range.... )

nah ....all stock like i said...only cams and headbolts. BTW we didn't try to make over 558 with more boost cause we weren't sure how good the bandaged up motor was...lol
