Evo IX MR vs. Charger SRT-8 in SPEED magazine
Just picked up SPEED magazine, the sister magazine of Road & Track, and read an article about an IX racing a Charger SRT-8 around a road course. I'm not sure if their 1/4 mile numbers are accurate, but it blew my mind to see the SRT-8 listed at 11.5! That's gotta be a typo, right? I mean the car has 420hp but it also weighs 4000lbs. Anyways the Evo IX, driven by an amateur driver, handily beat the SRT-8 even though it was driven by a former JGTC pro. They also had an eye popping 12.7 time for the IX in the 1/4 mile. I'm guessing neither car was stock, judging by the 1/4 mile times and since both are owned by members of the SPEED staff, but I couldn't find anything in the article about their mods.
Anyways it's worth a read. If for nothing else than this is the last ever edition of SPEED magazine and they crammed 3 months of future articles into it. Road and Track has decided to make it an online publication only.

No, that's probably a 12.5 for the SRT-8, as I showed a 300C SRT-8 that already hit 12.56@111.5 in stock form. As for the IX, I don't think they were listing THEIR times, but the times the IX is capable of doing. It is surely capable of 12.7 with a capable driver. 107mph is a recipe for 12.5-12.6 with a high 1.6x 60', but a 12.7 with a 1.7x 60' is more feasible.
this was found on there forums:
The testing for Motor Trend was done with a full tank of gas and 38 psi in the tires on a hot summer day on the concrete infield with painted lines at California speedway which resulted in the tires going up in smoke on every run so the tester would have to Peddle the car or ease in to it on every run, the writer even mentions in the article that the car was tractionaly challenged
Now we have posted our times all over these boards on the
SuperCharged 5.7 and 6.1's.
We have raced many times at California speedway and what a lot of people dont realize is that the Before #'s quoted for the stock SRT8 were not at California Speedway and our own Stock SRT8 Charger runs 13.4 @ 104 and the last time out we met up with a few of the locals with 300's and Magnums and the best time for a 300srt 8 with exhaust and intake was 13.32 @ 104
That same system on the 6.1L SRT at the same track only on the drag strip with street tires@ 22psi and 1/4 tank of gas and tuned for 10psi boost
12.02 @ 117 mph so compared a 13.30 to a 12.02 the difference is Huge
our acceloromater Testing the 0-60 is 3.8 seconds and 0-100 in 9.2 seconds
We will be out Racing again at a private track day on 1/15/06 at California Speedway again and we have a few more improvements that will yeild a mid 11 second 1/4 mile time ...

The one in my thread was done near sea level on 93oct with good temps, and it was a 300c - no better than a Charger.
Warrtalon, I back you up on your statement, this guy from Phoenix posted on the sonoranmusclecar.com forum which I am a member and he also says that there was a SRT-8 running the 12.56@111, I want to bet is the same guy you are talking about, was he running in NJ?
Anyway, your statement is very credible to me.
This guy only ran a 13.5@105 here in AZ though, and he is refereing to another SRT-8 owner from AZ running 13.8

The one thing I am impressed is that despite the SRT-8 having a clear adnatage of power to weight ratio the Evo still won. The brakes on the SRT-8 weren't a joke either 14.2" rotors and 4 piston brakes front and rear..
