Looking at 2006 IX or MR, any feedback?

If you've been "in the Evo world" as you say, why are you wondering about the same stupid questions that any Evo enthusiast already knows or knows better to find out on his or her own? I'll say it again, research your *** off. You say you don't have time? Maybe you don't want it enough, and it's not worth your "valuable" time.

You know I have a VIII with the SSL package and would not have it anyother way. The car is still an EVO plus it has the extra features of the sunroof, leather seats and the HIDs. Yes all of these things might add a few extra pounds but my car still runs a 13.4 so screw all of you SSL haters........and to the person who actually created this thread: go with what you want, either way you pick you will still be getting one bad A** car

Been researching all day on the IX vs IX MR myself, as well as the holdover 05's that might be discounted if I can find em...
Anyways, seems like the IX's are the way to go. Went through several Vishnu threads, and it's amazing what a custom tune brings the car up to compared to what the 03-05's mods needed to match the whp.
Now, as for the regular IX vs the IX MR... No doubt the MR has some excellent additions. To me, I'm not seeing the nearly $5000 worth of justification. 6sp is nice, but I've owned several 5sp's and 6sp's in the past, and it's not a huge change. My STi didn't get better mpg, or run all that much lower rpm's on the interstate, I could skip gears if I needed to but that's more of a extra torque issue. The shocks are upgraded, but I don't think most people really extract the extra use. The weight savings are cool, but no biggie (remove the spare or go on a diet). The little interior changes are really just Mitsu markups imo - but are nice.
Now, assuming I can drive both back-to-back, I might come away with a totally different idea!
Well, I can tell you what I did. I bought the SSL and spent the savings over the MR on mods (REAL gauges, filter, MBC, TBE, still deciding on ecu+ or flash). I did that after deciding that the stock IX suspension was plenty stiff and didn't need the Bilsteins. I have also had 6spd cars and I never liked the extra shifting and shorter gears.

Curb Weight (lbs.) [with Sunroof]: RS: 3219 IX: 3263 [3338] MR: 3285
you get an aluminum roof, yet its still heavier than the IX?
Specs here

1) 6-speed
2) HID lights with fogs and leveling control
3) Additional Gauges
4) Vortex generator

Several items on the MR weigh more than the IX, which offsets the weight savings of the aluminum roof and wheels.

The IX does not come with HID's. The gauges, HID's and VG don't weight that much, but it all adds up. The 6-speed is the main source of the additional weight.
