Looking at 2006 IX or MR, any feedback?

Hiya, my brother is a member of the boards here, hes got a 2004 Lancer OZ. (Can't hate on him too much! )

Anyways, I'm looking at the 2006 Evo right now, I'd prefer to get the MR, but I notice it does not come in black? So I configured a 2006 IX in black and added the "Sun, Sound, & Leather Package" and from what I can tell they come out to almost the same price and setup. I've read through the summary and can't find much of a difference. Any expert forum users out there care to school me on the subtle differences between the two?

Say a 2006 Evo MR
and
a 2006 Evo IX w/Sun, Sound, Leather package.

What are the differences?

Thanks!

The six speed, you have to switch more gears, depending on what you buy the car for if your buying it for drag racing id stick with the 5 speed, also MR comes with better suspension so if its for a road racing its slightly better, but if your planning on going all out with the car really doesnt matter which version you get. They are basically the same other than the transmission

If it go to mitsu's website it will let you compare the two evo's.

Also be prepared to be told to search because there is tons of stuff on this site regarding the differences.

The MR also has an aluminum roof, zero lift package, and vortex generator. There are some subtle interior tidbits that are standard also: aluminum pedals, shift knob, and aluminum/carbon e-brake handle. The MR also has the sweet-*** tiny sport gauges.

Thanks, thats exactly what I was looking for. I found bunches of posts but couldn't narrow it down exactly. So 6 speed, roof, lift, vortex and gauges. Guess I can live with a grey one since my brothers is thunder grey it'll make him nice and jealous!

I'm not sure if all the 9s have it, but when I was underneath my MR I noticed that there are some deflectors/air guides by the front arms to cool the front brakes. This was an optional part on the 8s but they came standard on my MR.

I'm just pissed off that the MR's don't have the option of Electric Blue like over seas.

It was a hard decision when I was about to get the IX. If you're going to mod your Evo (If.....ha!) I'm sure your suspension will be swapped out. If you get the MR, all you're basically paying extra for is the six speed, the HIDs, and the BBS rims. You don't get the HIDs unless you get SSL package on the five speed model.

In my opinion, the all leather Recaros are alright, but if you don't take care of them it'll look like hell afterwards. My friend has the SSL package on his VIII and he doesn't even take care of the car. The seats look horrible. Plus, you slide around a lot. The IX seats, from what my friends keep telling me even though I don't feel much of a difference, a lot of people say that it's much better than the VIII's.

I'm not too much into the sunroof. Having it or not doesn't matter to me. Well, actually it does. With my luck, I had a pigeon crap through the sunroof opening when I was driving my dad's MDX.

One other thing to mention is the $5000 dealer mark up on the MR editions.

Which you shouldnt be paying in the first place though - at least all dealerships around here are going for msrp or lower.

I think the only real positives about the MR vs the regular IX is that it has
- great 5th gear (and smoother gearbox)
- aero bits
- ~17lb rims
- aluminum roof

To me it was worth the extra $5k over the base model GSR.

I love my IX MR! Coming from a 2004 RS that was highly modded I think I made a very wise decision. The Bilsteins are great, the zero lift kit is a nice addition along with the brake cooling ducts. Six speed shifts way smoother than the five speed I had. Interior looks mostly the same but the leather gives it a more refined look. Gauges are a bit small, but functional nontheless so one less thing to have to fit to the car. Not crazy about the rims, but they are lighter than the Enkei's. Graphite Gray looks classy, even with that big a** wing!

HID's are very bright and I like the leveling adjustment for them. Don't pay the dealer markup, that's BS..... they just hope that every once in a while they'll find some poor schmuck who just doesn't know any better and HAS to have the car..........

Hope this helps,

Tony

Bah, I wasn't hoping I wouldn't have to waste my time typing in this thread. This post doesn't even warrant a response, because the information is basic and has been posted countless times, not to mention it's all available on the Mitsu website in plain view.

However, since people are giving you poor answers, I feel I must step in to make sure you aren't led astray any further:

MR extras you knew:
- 6spd
- VG
- Zero Lift Kit (Just a non-optional option they installed on all MRs)
- MR package (gauges, badges, floor mats, placard, shift knob, carbon fiber e-brake handle, etc - another non-optional option)
-aluminum roof

MR extras you didn't mention that are VERY VALUABLE:
- lightweight, forged BBS rims, which retail $750/ea and weigh 17.4lbs (over 2.5lbs lighter than the IX Enkeis per rim)
- Bilstein shocks that provide a softer daily ride without sacrificing any performance

Bad information given:
- That the 6spd makes you shift more and that the 5spd would be better for drag racing. This is wrong in two ways, because the gearing between the IX 5spd and 6spd is almost identical in gears 1-4, which take you up to 110mph. AFter that, you either have one gear to go all the way to 160 (5spd) or 2 gears to split the difference up to 160-170 (6spd). So, yes, you would shift MORE if you are constantly racing above 130mph (end of 5th in the 6spd). Otherwise, it's no issue. Also, at the drag strip, both 4th gears run out within 1mph of each other.
- 5k markup???? No way, only at a few crazy dealerships. That is by no means the norm, and some people have been getting MRs for under invoice...

This thread did too warrant a response, and I am the only one who gave it. The real answer is that there is no reason on earth to get the GSR over the MR except to save the price difference. Anyone who thinks the weight-adding sun sound leather package should be added to an EVO should be driving a Lexus.

MR for street. RS for track that's it. Now to repeat the proper response:
