intake on IX ..

a friend of mine got an evo ix mr ..
so he visited Gruppe-S and listed them his mods ..
and they told him to lay off of putting an intake into the IX cuz he said something like "evos dont take kindly to intakes" and it might screw up the ix ..
he is considering a injen intake with upper ic pipe .. and told them he is gonna get it tuned but they still remained persistent that something mite come up with the engine after the install (idling issues, leaks, etc) ...

so is it ok for an intake on the ix "with a tune" ?? ..

No need for it IMO, you wont get much more power vs. stock and the clean looking stocker sure helps if you take it to the dealer for work.

Now if your looking to take it to another level, new turbo etc then sure. But for common bolt ons + flash I would spend my money on something else.

It's the same for any Evo. Why waste $400 on an intake when it's not much better than the stock airbox and can cause issues with the MAF? Yeah, it can be tuned, but what's the point other than to have shiny pipes and a loud whoosh when the turbo spools?

Right on the money

Oh yeah - leave the bypass valve alone too; it's a great piece

dont put an intake on the evo. you lose mid-range rev but gain high-range rev. i had one and i hated it. put an intake later if you want once you have upgraded enough to reflash. the MAF issue is that its to sensitive to the motor.

Dude intakes suck!!! Stock is good up to 725whp. Why waste your money, your stupid!!

Just throw in a K&N filter and your ready to go!

I was just joking. I believe an intake is just as good as an investment as any other performance part. It makes power bottom line. Your going to get one down the road any way.

I've yet to see your dyno or 1/4-mile results to prove this.

I put my HKS RS intake on when I wasn't tuned, it felt I picked up some top end, but i've got no actual dyno numbers or track times to prove it.

i guess i am too lazy to try and prove something to you. it would take a lot of effort to get you to change your mind that an intake could possibly add some hp or torque with no tune. if we had a dyno it would make it easier. and the 1/4 mile times are too subjective. maybe someday ...

No, not picking a fight. I just know that when people try to claim nothing negative has happened without ever verifying it empirically, they usually have no idea what they're talking about. Bucking/stalling/idling/boost problems are not the main point when it comes to intakes. The point is in how it affects the stock tune in an averse manner. You can't possibly know what your intake has done without testing it on the dyno or at the dragstrip. There is nothing subjective about the drag strip when you go to the same one before and after. Who cares what your time is compared to mine or Mickey Mouse's? I was only talking about your car compared to itself before and after on both the dyno and drag strip. It's not proper to make claims such as yours with no evidence to back it up, especially when there's TONS of evidence to the contrary on Evos that HAVE tested on a dyno and at a drag strip. Make sense?

you only get top-end power with the intake.

INJEN WILL NOT FIT THE IX. Listen to the advice, it should NOT be your 1st mod. Get a boost gauge(if you do not have on already), boost controller, and a flash.
