Question Alpine - Auto Dimmer??

I'm installing my Alpine 9847 now and HU wire has a pink/black wire and it's called "Audio Interrupt In Lead". What a heck is this for? Is it something for cellphone or something?
Also, on the wireharness to the car, there is a negative dimmer (orange/black) and I can't find that on my Alpine. Do I not use it?

Please help!!!

That is for if you have a built in phone in your car. If you do and want to activate it you just ground the lead. Good luck.

bingo
I think you can answer your second questionf or yourself...or not. If you want your radio face to dim with the interior lights, find the corresponding wire on the alpine.

some aftermarket HU have a dimming feature that utilizes the headlamp switch. the wire that you are speaking of (the orange with black stripe??) is for nighttime use. it typically will have a positive (+) charge when you turn the lights on. you need to cap it off for safety, otherwise you will be blowing fuses for your dash if it were to ground out. the purpose of the lead wire is when you turn the headlights on, the HU display will be slightly dimmed so that it doesnt interfere with your night vision. believe it or not, when you have a HU that is reallly bright, it will hinder your night vision slightly. especially when your HU is basically stuck in your face above the hvac controls.

check your connections on the alpine HU to see if the wire is another color. dont trust that the colors will just mate up. ALWAYS check to see if the color code is correct and make the appropriate connections. sometimes they are not the same.

i would just cap off the other lead for the audio mute. it is for the older "car phone" set ups...

to add to this. Most Alpines will have a feature for the dimming. You can set it too AUTO, which will dim with the headlights on if above mentioned wire is used, or you can set it too always or never.

Thanks guys for the info!!!

The aftermarket wireharness has a dimmer wire but there's no dimmer from Alpine. This model does have auto dimmer function .
I'm guessing it detects the headlinght power on/off thru someother wire to function the dimmer. I will find out shortly.

Well, I'm installing the Alpine right now but my Auto Dimmer doesn't seem to be working.

The aftermarket wireharness has a dimmer lead but there's no lead from Alpine for dimmer. I'm using Metra 70-7001 Harness.

What should I do? ???? Help, please...

there should be just a plain orange wire on the alpine deck. this is the dimmer wire that you would use with the orange and black wire on ur harness.
if you dont use these its not big deal. just remember to cap off the ends so they dont touch anything. the radio doesnt get so bright that it interfers in your driving. I had one for almost a year and was fine with it.

The orange one from alpine says 'Illumination' and the wireharness has an orange one that also shows 'Illumination' so I think they match.
I know not having a dimming function is not a big deal but I hate that imperfection.

thats it. that is the correct wire to use. it is for illumination at night. what it will do is light up the volume control, preset buttons, etc. at night since you dont require them to be illuminated during the day. connect and enjoy.

you are correct Girlie. i installed an alpine in a friends car and he freaked out because the display actually went away. you can set the display to be shown for about three seconds at night and go black. you just hold down a button for this function at returns to normal. he just happen to be trying to set a radio station and held the wrong button too long resulting in him setting the display thingy wrong.
