Is EVO 9 HID/non-HID headlight housing same? Cheap fog light kit idea inside...
Does anyone know if the headlight housings on the EVO 9 are the same between the HID/foglight housings and the non-HID housings? What do they do for the non-HID/non-foglight housings in the fog light area? Is it just a plug of some sort or is the the actual headlight housing different?
I'm thinking people could install a set of foglights for under $50 if the the housings are the same and just missing the actual fog light bulbs. One could do the following:
1. Purchase a $9 wiring kit for the wires, relay, fuse & switch: http://www.autobarn.net/comwirkitfor.html (or just build your own).
2. Purchase the proper fog light bulbs (hopefully the same as in the HID housings). H11 is the fog bulb type there, right?
3. Purchase a $15 connector harness for those fog bulbs: http://www.intakeone.com/Light_bulbs...rnessKits.html
4. Remove the fog bulb plug in the headlight housing and install the real fog bulbs.
5. Install the wiring harnesses and mate to the new fog light bulbs.
So, can anyone check if step #4 is possible?

bumping this old thread, because i would like fog lights for my IX (non-hid) without having to buy a whole new housing. is there an oem kit where you can get the wires to hook it up?
from what i understand, the housing is the same but it is missing the switch/relays for the fogs to work. what i did on my car was sent it to a specialist to install and rewire a switch for the fog to work only when the parkers are on and the switch is turn to "ON" so basically if the parkers isnt on, the fogs will not work. hmm i dont have a u.s. model so maybe it is different with the wiring. anyways a bump for you
the headlights are NOT the same. i wanted to get factory HID's into my GSR and in order to keep my gunmetal housing on a pair of EVO 8 (HID) headlights, i had to cut a bit off the housing where the headlight is since the positioning is different from halogen and HIDs. also, the little ball on non-SSL headlights where the fog lights are supposed to go is not removeable and i don't think using a dremel to cut that out would've resulted in any good results.
my rs has the harness allready....well, where the fog light button is on the mr, my rs has the plugs dangling behing the dash..but when i try to put my buddys headlights in... the harness was different than his mr...but the 1-4 switch & the fog button harness was allready there.....and when i turn my headlights on, the switchs light up, so i know it would work... only if the headlight harness.....
if anyone has info please help
