That redline is a well-known joke. The old 4G63 in the DSMs can do 8500rpm no problem, all day long.

The new 4G63 in the EVO has a much lighter, better valvetrain. I'll bet it can handle 9000rpm without a care in the world.

I guess we will find out after a few years of people beating on them and removing the rev limiter.

Yes, but as Claudius said, you need a lot more power to offset the drag. Drag increases at the square of the speed! Each additional mph in speed takes more power than the mph before...

Almost all sports cars top out 2nd gear at 60. They know the 0-60 is a benchmark and two gearshifts would really impact the time. Car makers know better...

Now the Vipers are another story, they can hit 60 in 1st..

I guess you can put those highway gears in a sportscar when you develop 300+ ftpounds of torque at 1,000 RPM's then on to 500 ftpounds / 500 HP ... then again the motor is what 488ci ?

No mystery where all that power comes from
