Rev limiter not until 7800-7900rpm. :)

Not sure how much power it is making above 7000rpm, but my car does not shut off until about 7900....which makes the 0-60 a 1 gear switch instead of 2 (just in case somone wants to race you to 60mph).

I'm fairly certain top end (just before redline) of 2nd gear in the EVO VIII is prolly 72 - 75 mph..

Can any owners comfirm ?

So why would you have anything other then 1 gear change anyway (without darting past the redline) ?

I did not pay attention, but i thought I read in SCC that they needed to switch to 3rd gear (switching at the redline) to get to 60 mph.

holy **** .. that sounds like a 6 speed to me... maybe the EVO is geared a whole lot lower then I thought

Just checked, Road and Track claims 7K RPMS in 2nd gear = 60MPH on the dot

Hey claudius, is it ok with the 4g63 engine to rev it that high? is there a point that we sould stop without causing a see-through engine? (i'm speaking a stock to lightly modded engine, not the stroker you have, though I'd like to know what your limit is!)

Probly with such a huge stroke the engine's limit will be lower. Read that stroker engines put alot of stress on the rods and crank bearings. Are the valve springs and retainers titanium in a stock evo8 ???

It's ok to rev it that high once the engine is well broken in, on stock boost, for short periods in the lower gears (2nd and 3rd and a little bit of 4th). The worst for the engine is to go flat out in 5th with increased boost.

A stock Evo 6 TME threw a rod after one day of being hammered (test car) all day long. If you like revving the hell out of the engine, uprate the con rod bolts (ARP make stronger ones).

I currently have the rev limiter set to 7600 rpms (as it runs out of breath before that, it doesnt really matter anyway). The engine can take 8000 rpms easily. The rev limit on the JUN Hyperlemon Evo 5 with T67 25G is 9000 rpms I believe. I guess I'll increase the rev limit when I get a bigger turbo (still evaluating options right now)

We opened the engine up last month after 4000 miles and it was fine

They arent on the previous models...
