+1 Me too. Changed oil @ 1000miles. No noticeable shavings in the oil. Planning on flushing the tranny at 3000miles.

I don't consider the manual's recommendation to be soft. Boosting to 5k rpm regularly for the first 600 miles without going higher than that is pretty good, although it's not as extreme as redlining it immediately.

I just did what the manual told me to do so that I didn't have that feeling in my head that I did something wrong to my baby.

thnx guys, keep em coming pls. .... i'm getting my car next week and trying to figure out the best way .... i broke my REX the motoman way and i thought i made really good HP nos ....

my buddy bought a REX as well witihn a couple of months of me, ran it in a softer way.

We both had the same mods and the same tuner .... on the ECUTEK DeltaDash dyno (which is s/w based and will not be accurate, but serves as a good baseline anyway), i posted 225WHP whereas he posted 212WHP ....

could be other factors like the time of day etc ... but the only significant difference that i could think of was the break in method we used ....

oh well ... for the EVO i feel like going softer than motoman cos i feel it's more precious .... haha

true ... i should have said "soft(er)" .... anyway looking at the poll results i'm likely to pick the manual method over MM method eventho' i've run it in that way before ..

1/4 miled it using the dealership lot as a start gate then proceeded to drive it for a few hours. Drove to my wrench and had all the fluids swapped.

Problem-free at 10k miles

Just like the manual said. 600 miles without going over 5k RPMs. I did boost regularly boost to 4500-4800 and let the revs drop down 2500-3000 before down shifting to a lower gear. The car runs good to me. I also changed the oil when I got home from HB Mitsu and at 600 miles.

I did both. did the hard run for the first few times and slow low rev for the most of the time.

I used a lighter than Mitsu manual, 3000 rpm for the first 500 miles then gradually raising the rpms over the next 700 miles for a 1200 mile break-in. My '03 that i used a similar break-in on posted some pretty good hp numbers when I dynoed it at 1001 miles.

I didn't think that was recommended, since it doesn't allow the piston rings to seal. The car needs to boost early and often in order to do this so as not to every have any blow-by.
