Usually, though, there are hot spots or excessive wear, which is a sign of abuse. You should have seen my PP and flywheel at 7500 miles - they were both mirrors.

Ya but wouldnt you guys agree that the clutches could be made better and that alot of people are having problems with the stock clutches? there is more failures in clutches then i would like to see in a 30000 doller car.

I am sure you took it to Obrien in Naples. Knowing the people there even if it is a defective clutch they will say it was you. Out of all the people I know personally with evo I can't think of one person who has had a defective clutch so I don't think it is a majority that is having these problems. Good luck with the warrenty but I think it may be you that is killing the clutch.

I agree that there are alot of failures for a $30K+ car, but alot of it has to do with the driver. I know alot of people that have not had to change out there clutch even after 20k+ miles. IMO it is how you drive it!

You can't drive a car into a brick wall and then claim it has a ****ty bumper.

There was just a poll on this, i cant find it but there were about 100 some people that participated in it. 11 of those peoples clutches went out before 5000 miles about 20 went out at 10000 and another 20 at 15000. 11% is alot for going out before 5000 miles.and about 40% below 15000, that sucks! do you think the wrxs clutches do that? no. i love my evo but hate the clutch and i new before i bought it that i would have problems with it.

WRX clutches go put just as fast in the right hands. Do a search at NASIOC.

No, I would not agree with your statement about stock clutches being **** in the EVO. And by the way, the article you reference is in Turbo. And who do you think paid for that print space, Mitsu or the aftermarket clutch manufacturers?

I have 44k miles on my EVO, stock clutch still holding strong, even with cams and a TME 6.5 turbo.

My take is, people jump in this awd torque monster, and expect to be able to launch it like the fwd integra they just traded in. It's driver error, not the factory clutch's fault. I'm sure there are defects, but maybe 10% max. of all those that complain their stocker went out under 10k miles.

I've slipped mine on more than one occasion enough to get the burnt clutch smell in the cabin that took a couple days to air out. But the minute I see the rpms rising and hear the turbo spooling but the car not going anywhere, I back off immediately. Yet my stock clutch is still going strong. Since then, warrtalon has taught me the proper launching techniques for the EVO, and I think I can get another 10k mile out of the stocker with ease. I can't understand how people are losing clutches at less than 10k miles unless it's driver induced.

Just becasue the clutch went out doesn't mean that it was because of a defect. There are many people that have used there stock clutch to make a good amount of power more then stock, dragrace, and autocross. Bad news spreads alot quicker then good. If everyone came on here and said hey I have 20k miles on my clutch and it still fine then this forum would be huge. When it comes time to change my clutch (which is not too far off) I will do it knowing that if I never launched it it would have lasted a long time but that isn't why I bought the car. You said you knew you would have problems with the clutch before you bought it.

My stock clutch went out at 5000 miles due to the TOB cracking. The dealer did warranty it. I decided at the time not to put the stock clutch back in and went with the Exedy Twin. Best clutch I have ever owned thus far and well worth the money. I went through four different clutches in my Eclipse including an ACT 2600 and the Exedy is far better than any of them!
