I just bought a new EVO. I am concerned with my warranty so I was just wondering if anyone has personally delt with a Mitsu dealer that doesn't mind EVO's having mods on them. The last thing I want is my warranty being voided.

Mits dealers are going to have no problems with your mods especially if you buy the mods from them. The problem you will run into is the manufacturer Mitsubishi itself. Install a turboback exhaust and run the risk of a Mits rep telling you your mods caused the engine damage you are tring to get warrenty work for. I would spend some time on the forum looking for ways to buy mods and have them looking very stock. Personally I think its much more fun to do than buying flashy parts. Kind of like your way of sticking it to the man! Plus you will not draw as much attention to yourself while your on the road (like your not already drawing enough attention with an MR).

Stick with a drop in filter, Works exhaust components (seem to look stock to me), and a reflashed ecu. These will net great power, be under the radar, and it will be your way of sticking it to the man! Oh and btw, these parts will be great for setting yourself up for future mods.

it really depends which dealer you goto. Most of them are NOT mod friendly. Doing anything to the car will void the warranty immediately. But there is a few that will let you do simple mods like: intake, exhaust, turbo timer, and suspension.

 

I agree. A drop in K&N filter, MR BOV and a reflash made my car a bit crisper. It pulls hard all the way to read line and I hit fuel cut at about 8K.

After my 60K is up, I can think about doing more stuff, but I will keep it this way till about 100K. I drive it 60 miles a day and I don't want to pay more for gas and have a fart pipe installed.

This car is just as fast as I need it to go, as it is easy to get into trouble by doing more than 55MPH.

Is it possible to buy a spare ECU for the EVO? Then you could have have one that's flashed and one that's stock. I know you can do this with Subarus. They have a very easy drop in ECU.

 

The ECU is behing the glove box, fairly simple swap. (HINT) Most dealers can't tell of a reflash. But do what I did, and that is talk to your Mitsu servicing dealer in person. Tell them what you want to do, and they will tell you what they can accept as a dealer. I have a complete exh done to my VIII, ss manifold, turbo dump pipe, full 3" TBE w/cat delete. The only thing they won't cover is the O2 sensors. Which is understandable. What did void was the turbo, because I have a Greddy Profec B spec II and that over rides factory settings. Hence voided. But they are still honoring internals and drivetrain if left alone. Once you start upping the internals, kiss the warranty goodbye. So talk to them before install on anything, and or if you can't install yourself, most Mitsu dealers can install upgrades for you. By you doing that, lets them see you care about your car. Establish a decent relationship with them and your car and they will be very forgiving with upgrades. It's workin out for me so far. But then again, some dealers are just rude and only believe in leaving the car alone stock.

 

Unless you're willing to drive all over the country, answers from other areas won't really help. If you go look on our local forum, you'll see a big writeup on our local dealerships, and you'll see which one clearly rises above the rest in the DC area.
