Noob soon to be E8 owner - questions on logevity...
Hello - just got back from a test drive in a red E8 with 80 miles on the clock - have a few questions from you vet Evo owners.
I went to City Mitsu here in Jax - the sales guy was very cool - a modder himself. I'd suggest them to anyone in the area.
I've also got a hook-up at the dealer auctions in Central FL who is finding E8s with 3-8k miles for 24-25. I missed a white 05 MR with 2800 miles yesterday - I told him I'd go no higher (for budget reasons) then 28k. It went for 29,5.
Thanks in advance for my noob questions.
Edit: BTW - they let me test drive it no questions asked with a copy of my DL - my 4-year old daughter even went along in the back seat with her car seat.
- Is it true that all the 05s have the 5/60 warranty? How has your Evo been reliability-wise?
- In a general sense, how hard is the E8 to do simple bolt-ons (ie BOV, exhaust, etc)
- Sure you're biased but how do you like your Evo if you've had it for a while? Would you buy it again?

I LOVE IT!!! Best car I have ever owned -yes I would buy it again, and again, and again......
-mods aren't bad at all if you know your way around a car...just find a reputable tuner when your ready for the fine adjustments.
-my 03 VIII came with a 3yr/36k bumper to bumper & 5yr/60k drivetrain
i love the car, but i would not buy it again. the only reason is that i used to be hardcore into cars, and now i'm getting more into my original passion, which is music. i play drums for two bands and it kinda makes me wishing i would have gotten a car that stood out less.
I thought 05's had a 100k mile warranty.
I have an 03, and it's been great so far. As long as you don't get a bad tune, mod incorrectly, or crash your car, it'll last. Drive carefully on the road and save the aggressive driving for the track.
Modding is fun and pretty easy. Don't waste your time with a BOV and intake. Start with a reflash and TBE. TBE is pretty easy to install, just don't break the DP bolts in the O2 housing, use anti-seize when you put the bolts back in, and get the right tools, like an O2 sensor socket (though I'm a hypocrite since I didn't use one myself...hehe).
I recommend exhausts that are designed with the stock jigs in mind, so that you can go back to stock if you run into trouble with the authorities.

Mine is an '03, with some bolt- on mods, got 45k so far (daily driver) and the car is running like a plane with no wings....just be careful when you start your mods, make sure you get to a reputable shop who knows the Evo and don't attempt to do anything on the car if you're not sure.....if you know what I mean. Well good luck and have fun.....p.s. don't worry about your warranty if your planning to do some mods on your car, besides I don't really trust the dealership to work on my Evo even if it's just a simple oil change.

05s all have 5/60 bumper to bumper and 10/100 powertrain warranty.
modding is unbelievably easy, especially for an 05. BPU can get you 12.0 flat. check out warrtalon's ride.
i can not imagine being happier with my evo. it is a perfect car in my opinion.

I love Evo's so much I have bought two. Only problem I have ever had is paint on my calipers coming off. Besides that I drive my second Evo everyday 100-200 miles and love every second of it. The only way I will get rid of Evoitis as I like to call it is to get a better Evo.
i have a White 05 EVO RS:
i have a 10/100 waranty on mine
amazingly easy
pain in the *** to keep clean, everything shows BUT it looks soooo HOT when it is clean and yes i would buy it in white again.

Thanks again for all the replies. After the test drive last night, I can't wait to get one. They have some incentives for the 05s left (one), but they probably aren't enough for me to get one new, especially if I can get one for 25k at the dealer auction with 2-8k miles on it.
