Having driven the IX and the MR I can give you a couple of my opinions.

The 5 speed and the 6 speed have almost identical gear ratios thru 4th gear. It is very nice to have the 6th gear on the freeway as it provides a lower rpm, quieter ride.

The Bilstein suspension rides much nicer than the IX suspension. If you're going to change out the suspension anyway, then this won't matter to you.

The BBS wheels look outstanding. Much better than the IX.

Good luck!

Anyone know about the stock boost levels of the IX vs the IX MR? Are they the same?

What is it, 20.5psi max with taper to redline nowadays?

Boost levels are the same.

Not sure about the actual boost strategy, but I know that they are the same for all.

Was looking at the mitsu website. How is it that the regular IX gets better mpg than the MR? If the first 4 gears are the same, and the MR has another 'overdrive' gear, shouldn't it's mileage be better?
Anyone speak to this?

Maybe the MR is less aerodynamic with all its gurney flaps, v gens, front lips, etc.

Being a potential owner, I've been curious about this myself. I dug up a past issue (March 2005) of Motor Trend, and they compare all three Evo VIII models. (Yes, I know it's not the IX, but it should give a general indication of the differences in fuel consumption.) In their driving conditions, they had observed average mpgs of 18.1 for the regular model, 17.6 for the RS, and 16.6 for the MR.

Found a decent trade-in deal on a new 06 in Electric Blue. Anyone know of any pics of the old Blue By You side-by-side with the new Electric Blue?

Also would love to see a pic of the new Electric Blue side-by-side with the famouse Subaru WRB (Winning Rally Blue Pearl) as that was my last car. Want to know the difference, as the dealership isn't close, and noone else has the color close.

your main reason for not buying a mustang is RWD? i can think of dozens of much better reasons for not buying a mustang. it really sounds like the evo is not the right car for you...

I'm getting curious about this fuel mileage point as well.

Testdrove the IX tonight. Sticker was $31k, it did not have the SSL package, and not the MR.

Good:
The alcantra seats are awesome. Tight fit, excellent, excellent hold. Top notch. Spunky - almost torque-y from 3k up. Front-end is excellent looking, just remove the Mitsu star in the middle which looked simple. Taillights look great on almost all colors - seen IX's in silver, blue and black. Same awesome steering, same awesome notchy gearbox! New rims are nice.

Bad:
Same low-grade interior dash. Just that CF peice that a majority of us bought JDM for $385, I know I did. Same small guages that seem unfriendly to the eyes. Still nothing below 3k on the car really. I could let out the clutch in first, then literally floor it, and nothing until 2k rpm's. I know that's being picky, but I'm trying to list everything...

That about sums it up.

In retrospect after the testdrive... If I could get the Evo seats into an STi, and have the torque, that'd be what I'd do. That's just me though. I like the Evo IX frontend better, but like the STi wingless better (wanting to go wingless with next car). I dunno man....gonna patrol the classifieds and see if anyone dumps one! Hope this helps all.

Cool Car Advice

[QUOTE=boomn29]Drove seveal 350z's. RWD, which is primarily why I don't like the Mustang.
QUOTE]

There are a lot of better reasons to not like a Mustang. RWD is actually it's 2nd best feature (first being a Modular V8). The looks are the worst. They tried to re-kindle the old look, but it ended up way too generic looking, it looks like a 67 Mustang got ****ed by a Hertz rent-a-car Taurus and this is their unwanted love child.

You change your mind so much.... like 3 cars in 3 years??? Take a lot of test drives and do a lot of research. Good luck and let us know how it all turns out!

Just my not so humble opinion.

Actually I love the looks dude. There's just things I like more about the AWD turbo'd cars. To each his own. The Mustang is beautiful, and has so many little things about it that are so much better than the Evo. Again, to each his own.

And I'm actually on my 6th car in just over 5 years. (1 wreck, 1 hail severely damaged). Looking to hook up my 7th in 5 years btw. I like cars...

What piece are you referring to? The fake carbon dash trim?

Yeps. They just included it as standard now. Other than that it's all the same.

Also, the now standard ACD button is new, and the intercooler spray button is gone.
