Unhappy Friend blew turbo!!!!

Hey guys, heres the story. Supposedly a friend of mine (Bryan Velez) owns a used 2004 TB Evo and I guess he was working on his car and left a screw driver in the engine bay. One day he was driving hard and white smoke started pouring out. Well, he took it to DEvotuning in Arlington Heights and they started making fun of him and probably said he couldn't drive. I mean, the guys at DEvotuning said that he is "****ed!" They said that he shouldn't even drive the car home and keep it here. I feel bad for him but I was wondering if any one you guys have an idea if whether or not the screw driver caused the turbo to blow, or his driving.

Are you absolutely sure the turbo is blown? I had a friend on here, chickenbreast, that had a very similar issue -- turns out the clamps around the turbo were not on tight enough -- oil was seeping out and due to the heat of the turbo created the white smoke.

I think it would be very hard to to have a screw driver enter the turbo especially with both open ends covered by the intake and the exhaust portion of the turbo. Unless of course he did something like not install is intake??

A screwdriver in the engine bay wouldn't cause a problem. unless it pierced something. I agree with kronik on this, he has seen it before with his friends.

Yea, I am positive it is blown. A friend of mine went to DEvotuning with him. They checked it out and said that he is ****ed. The propeller shaft inside the turbo is in pieces. He does have an aftermarket intake that came with his car but I don't know if he took it off or not. Btw, this kid doesn't treat evos like we do. He doesn't take care of it at all!!!

Well he's to blame then. I seriously doubt the screwdriver pierced the housing of the turbo. I wish him luck on finding a new turbo -- however, he could take a look at the local junk yards and possibly find a totaled evo with a shiny turbo in it.

Thanx guys, so it probably was because he beats the **** out of it all the time and doesn't treat it right. He has had like 2 accidents already and has had his car for 3-4 months. Someone cut his rear bumper. He almost hit a pole and what not!

This thread makes me sad and pissed. Why would someone get a $30K car to treat like crap?

I had to wait a couple years before I could afford a USED Evo.

I finally got one.....and I am damn sure to treat the car right.

I think the blown turbo is the least of his problems. The engine ingested all the broken pieces of the impeller.

Yea man, this kid makes fun of me because the only thing wrong in my car I have done is blown the clutch because I learned on it, yet he does **** to his car?? He bought the car as soon as I bought mine. He doesn't work and dad pays for everything. He thinks he's a badass. ONE TIME HE WAS DRINKING AND DRIVING?!!! IN THE EVO TOO!!!!!!
