2nd Gear Oddities
I noticed the 1-2, and 2-3 "crunchiness" in the Evo's gearbox when I got to drive one for the weekend (we're trying to break one in to be a test driver). I noticed that it only seemed to happen when the car was cold, or when I was lazily shifting through traffic or at just casual speeds. It seems like you have to make sure the clutch is all the way down and that you complete the shift before you start to let up. During spirited driving (not going over 4000 of course), and while blipping the throttle before the next shift, it would never happen. Oh, and I'm 6'2" if that means anything. I don't think anything is wrong with your car.
Everyone is experiencing a normal condition. Just let the thing warmup a little the trans oil is heavy and your trying to push it through mud.
What DSMer's did was switch to B+G Syncrshift and poof the cold hard shifting was gone. If you're grinding the gears it's not cool. These things are new and everything is tight. Take it easy and be deliberate with pushing the clutch in.

Don't know if this will help anyone but when I first started driving AWD turbo DSM's. I found not so much the speed of the shift mattered but how smoothly I pushed in the clutch / pulled the shifter.
After this no more hurky - jerky 2nd gear shifts
Like shooting don't snap the trigger squeeeeeze
