Unhappy Grinding..............took to dealership

Alright guys, here's another question. I have been getting grinding noises when I shift hard into 3rd gear (6-7k rpms) and 5th gear. I took it to Biggers Mitsubishi in Elgin, IL. The service manager Keith drove my car and said that it was good and that he didn't have any problems with it.........I think it is my synchros, so what do you think I should do? Should I just ask them to change synchros or do you just think I'm going psycho??

i have had similar issues and basically if the dealership says there is no problem then i have found no way to persue it past that. all i do is just keep bringing it up and, of course, they drive the car for 2 minutes and tell me it's fine... over and over. i supposed you could try a different dealership or tell them you will drive with a tech and duplicate the problem.

Well for one, I wouldn't try to recreate it the problem because they will probably deem it as abuse. Also, if I were you, I'd ask your dad to take it in instead of you.

Well I took mine in for this same exact problem about 3 months ago. They replaced the ring, sleeve, and synchros in 1st, 3rd, 5th, and reverse. I bought it used back in Nov. 2004 and 3rd shift was grinding every now and again. When I had it rollbacked to the Keffer Mitsu it wouldn't go into gear, but before that day I never had a problem with any other gear other than 3rd grinding. I had no idea the others were messed up that bad. Every now and again it wouldn't go into gear but only when it was cold outside. So I wouldn't wait around...while they are saying nothing's wrong. Something is wrong. Very pricey fix I might add when not under warranty.

Like evo VIII said, have your dad bring it in or go to another dealership.

I have the same problem with mine. I has always been hard to get into 2nd and 3rd on the upshift. My car has 6000 miles on it. I changed to BG synchroshift 1, and all the other gears seem smoother, but 3rd seems to clunk even more now. Declutching helps a bit. I am going to wait until it gets really bad, and then go to the dealership. Will have to remove my TBE first, which will be a pain.

My car was grinding when I went from 2-3, I changed fluid to redline and made it smoother, but then I noticed it was starting to come back, so after around 10,000 miles I switched to Synchroshift and I has been great since then!

Alright, thanks guys. I am going to ask my dad to take it to the dealership and if they won't fix it then I'll take it to a different dealership. If that still doesn't work then I'll switch my oils. Thanks a lot once again!

i took my evo twice. the second time i drove and duplicated the grind. he was a cool guy, the manager of service, and told me the clutch it the problem. the thing is the clutch is no under warranty. the thing is, that if you put an aftermarket clutch it will void warranty. he also called mitsubishi tech line, and they said that i was the only one with this kind of problem that they have ever heard of. i gonna print these comments and bring them to my dealer. also did any of you by your car brand new of the lot?

Do you hear a hum when downshifting, if so it might be your syncros. If not then its your timing.
