joy riding my evo
I took my evo in for warrenty work for my 5th gear grind last week which they replace my syncro with no question asked. I get my car back yesterday and i notice that they put 40 miles on my car. Is this normal to make sure everthing is running right? should i complain about it?

you have to consider the fact that they had to get the car in fifth gear and run it for a while. you need a lot of room for that considering fifth gear is where you go fast... you will cover a lot of distance.... 40 miles isn't bad. if they put 40 miles on after an alignment or fixing your window, that would be different...

C'mon! No way! What on earthly reason would they need to drive the car 40 miles for? As soon as it shifted into 5th with no problems they should have returned to the dealership. Anywhere on the planet this should have been no more than 10 miles. I hope he enjoyed the tour/test drive.
If there is a problem like that, they will typically drive the car around to see if they have fixed the problem, 40 miles is not excessive at all. you also have to look at it from the technicans POV, if there is a problem he would rather fix it then, then have you bring it back and complain that it wasn't fixed.
I dont think 40 miles is excessive at all, especially being a 5th gear issue, its better that they actually took the time to drive the car, and make sure the concern was taken care of then just shoot it down the road and back and ship it and have it come back again.
and a weeks time sounds pretty good seeing that they had to take the trans out and tear it down and order parts (its not like they stock things like that), it took me 14 days to get mine back for the same issue.
and you have to think that part of that 40 miles was put on when they road tested the car to begin with to verify the complaint.

It's 40 miles man....don't sweat it. For big job like that I would hope they would test it for more than 20 miles.
Besides even if they drove it hard for a little bit its not like it was 40 miles of hard launches.
They probably treat it better than you do. They drive evos all the time its not like its a special event.

its one thing that dealerships are a$$holes about warranty work, but if one dealership does it with no questions asked theres no need to be a a$$ to them
40 miles is reasonable, to get to 5th gear they probably had to go to a highway. so diagnosis, get to the highway, 1 exit, go back to the dealer, that could easily be 20 miles if not more. then after fixing it, same thing, another 20 miles
