I could be wrong but with the miles, I'd be surprised if a bank thought it was worth 10k, but once you don't have the original engine, usually value is is cut by near 50%..... at least to the banks eyes.

Don't quote me, just speaking from what I have "heard"....

I was giving a best case scenario, the bank might consider a 10k loan. Also, all the bank is going to do is check out the vin and the mileage, they won't have a clue as to what engine is in the car.

What i am wondering is what you guys would do? I only have two choices, this car or an evo. My plans for either car is to turn it into a full on caged race car; rally mostly but with some definite track and auto/rally cross in there too. I dislike the new scooby shapes but i love the older body style such as this is. Plus it is much lighter than an evo IX could ever dream of being, which is nice. I will probably get flamed for this post, and i will get biased answers, etc. etc. But have at it and lets see what you all ahve to say.
12.42.Hmm... Sounds like a nightmare to work on. Subarus are no fun to work for one and a JDM motor swap (someone else did) could be dificult to get parts for and trouble shoot with so many unknowns.

Where do you get that idea, Subarus in general are very easy to work on, unless we're talking about cams or something like that. The boxer just makes a few things a little trickier to work on. Other than that they're a dream to work on.

It wasn't in relation to the engine, it was in relation to the car as a whole, I even stated that the boxer makes a few things a bit trickier. Also, why are you, and so many other people in this thread talking about anything but a 2.0L in this thread. It has a JDM ver.8 engine which like every other JDM STI engine is a 2.0L.

i say get the evo IX for these reasons

1. its a new car vs a used beaten car. this car has been beaten to death, and it has 90k miles on it, he says he owned it for the majority of its life, so for the majority of its life its been beaten on, and when you talk about heavily modded cars such as this one, with that many miles on it you will encounter many problems and hassles, and its lifespan will not be much longer than it is, maybe 50k miles im guessing, thats not enough for a 22k price tag

2. this car has all the work done on it already. im guessing half the fun of your decision to race this car would be to slap on new parts, taking the car to the track, and testing out how much improvement each part gives to the machine, you wont have that option in this sti, everything is already done for you. theres much more satisfaction when you build the car, so thats something to consider as well.

3. if weight is your concern, get a RS evo IX, that should be able to at least hang with this scooby in terms of weight of the car, and the evo IX has a more updated awd system and better steering, so im guessing that will also give you an edge in rallying (although weight is the main factor)

4. new vs used with alot of miles...always go new, especially on modded cars such as these

I strongly, STRONGLY recommend the Evo.

I have had STi for track work before. It took A LOT of mods to address its inherent understeer issues, and the bigger turbo lag makes it just that little bit later to power out. Lastly the steering is not as direct as the Evo's.

I switched to Evo 8 GSR and never, ever looked back. Many of my friends did the same (switched from STi/WRX to Evo for track work).

Just to give you an idea, my water-injected STi boosting 1.6bar did a 2m47s fastest lap.

My BONE-STOCK off-the-showroom Evo did 2m46s. After alignment, 2m44s. With minor mods (exhaust and coilovers) I did a 2m39s in the rain last time I was out on track.

Get the STi if you love.... the challenge Otherwise do get an Evo.
