A lot of people on here will tell you the stocker is crap esp if you are getting a MBC. Its a good idea to upgrade to something more accurate and easier to read when messing around with your boost pressure.

one more thing...what about cams like hks 272's. should i do those or something like hardintercooler piping first?

(let me explain a little bit....im a honda guy at heart. i had a 96 civic hatch with a b16 turboed and that was my first car and my baby. then i got a g35 as an early graduation present and i only had it for 2 months before it got totaled then i went and got my evo with the insurance money from the accident. the evo thing was totally random though i was online looking at cars trying to decide what to get and i saw all this stuff about how much better the evo 9 is and all the improvements so i called the local mitsu dealer and they had one MR on the lot and they had just got it. i went over there the same day and came home with it i didnt do any reasearch at all but i love the car and im just trying to find the best route to add performance so thanks in advance for helping with my questions)

so back to the important stuff...would i be ok if i did cams without getting hard intercooler piping? because now im thinking im gonna do a downpipe, hks cams, and a boost controller...hows that sound?

+1. The factory manifold is an excellent piece. Downpipe, cat delete, boost guage will be fine. I say spend the rest of the money on some suspension upgrades. You can't go wrong with that.

Get your exhaust finished - 3" all the way back.
Next is cams and head studs.
Do thorough leak testing and see if that BOV is as leaky (stock) as I think it likely is - then replace it.

From there you can move to an MBC.

The only REAL essential and the most bang for the buck is the flash or tune. Get it done in person (road or dyno) if you can after all your mods.

Good luck!

As everyone has said, get a good downpipe and test pipe. Make sure you research the downpipe as not all of them fit the 06.
A MBC is a good idea if you plan on running race gas, increasing boost. If you only plan on staying at one boost level, it's not needed right now, as the flashes now control boost. Good investment though.
LICP would probably the next stepn if you must spend $2k. And finish it off with a full tune flash. This would be a good "stage" of modifications.
There aren't any IX specifics cams yet so you should wait.
The stock BOV and turbo gauge are fine for where you're at.

A good rear sway bar is a good mod.

Good luck!

Depending on the year Evo you have a good next step after above would be port-n-polished O2 housing and a 10.5 hotside turbine housing - that works best in prepping you for a step up in turbo itself.

All that being said, the FMIC and piping I have has considerably helped ability to boost on regular octane gas dependably as well.
