Just wait a couple of years. At the end of 2007 the EVO 10 will be out. I have serious doubts about the ten. Then you can trade your 05 Evo 8 on an 07 Evo 9. I bet that Mitsu will have the same 0% financing on the 07 Evo 9 that they had on the 05 Evo 8. I am going to do just that at the end of 2007. I do not think that the Evo 10 will be as good as the 9.

If I do go through with this, I wouldn't do it until July or so...and the VIII will be paid off by then, so I'd only owe ~4000 on the IX.

If you do it home boy dont just get the GSR again go with the MR. If I was in your shoes with a paid off VIII and was starring at a gorgeous WW IX MR I dont think I would be able to hold back. Of course on the flip side you want to get out on your own soon and that $4k could be $4k down on a condo. Grow up or keep living, thats what it boils down too. Dibs on your 272e cam if you jump ship.

couldn't have said it better. and who know if the MIVEC will develope problems with age. I'm sticking with the traditional 4G63 as well. But I do want the IX turbo

I have contemplated the same idea for the last couple of months. You already have a great car, why not keep it. Worse comes to worse, do what I'm going to do. Upgrade the front bumper to a IX and the rear to a JDM IX. Then I'm going to add the lower lip. You can always save up for some add't paint work to take care of normal road wear. Than invest into the clear front end tape gaurds for headlights, hood, and other parts of the front. Upping for the IX turbo and other mods is a great way to go as well. You don't need a IX to have a great Evo. I sometimes think I should trade up as well, but then see some of the big name tuners on here puttin up pics and dyno sheets of upgrades to the VIII's and I start drooling. I honestly say you should stick with what you got, and with the right advise from the people in here who have already done it. You can go wherever you want with it. It's a good plan and seems to have worked for most of the people who have considered the same.

you didnt factor in the that you've made 11 months worth of payments. The payments are heavy on interest as all loans are at the beginning of the payment cycle. You'll get hit again with a new payment cycle.

Not of concern...I have less than 13k left on the VIII...I'd buy the IX when I've paid off the VIII, and would only be financing 4k or so. 4k wouldn't amount to much interest paid.

Why finance the IX, wait an extra month or two and pay cash. I would think you would get the best deal on the IX with cash.

I would pay off your car and buy a daily driver. Then mod the hell out of the VIII

if you're not making the dealer lose $, buying the car is a waste of your time & $. i would never pay more than invoice on any car & think of all the work put into the 8 u have. if you flashed it, u can't retrieve that either!!!!! u can always buy the 9 & put the 8 up for sale since u would have 45 days to make your pymt. your cams would still be useable as long as you got the new HKS mivec controller.

lol i recently checked into trading my 05 viii with the SSL package for a g35 coupe or 06 tacoma and i only got crappy, LAUGH OUT LOUD trade-in figures. i didn't feel like haggling with anyone but you can tell they wanted the car BAD! if you have time sell it privately but that just takes forever too....good luck though

Let's do some math:

1. You have about $13,000 left on your VIII.

2. You finish paying off the VIII.

3. You sell your VIII for let's say at best $27,500

4. The price of a new IX GSR (equivalent to your current car; I don't know if you want SSL) is $29,593 (invoice)

5. Buy price based on invoice is:

$29,593.00 Buy price
$ 595.00 Destination charge
$30,188.00 TOTAL
$ 1,509.40 5% MA Tax
$31,697.40 TOTAL BUY PRICE

6. The amount you'd have to pay to buy the IX would be:
$31,697.40 - $27,500.00 = $4,197.40

7. Doesn't seem too bad but in selling the car so early, you'd pretty much lost whatever your original down payment was.

8. Basically what you've lost is the out-the-door price you originally paid for your VIII minus the price you sold your VIII for, plus the $4,197.40 you'd have to pay for the IX.

But if you really want to; who am I to tell you otherwise
