MAF Cleaning
MAF Cleaning
I have an 03 and since I bought the car I've cleaned & oiled my filter about 5 times. But now my MAF Is oily and dirty inside and im beginning to think that is the reason my timing is so inconsistent between runs also the car is becoming difficult to tune as my AFR's change a lot betwen runs. I have a can of this stuff
I wanted to know if this is safe to spray directly into the MAF and not have any damage done to it. Or maybe there is something better out there that I could use. If you have done this before what did you use?
Thanks
Joel

yes, that stuff is safe. It would be better if you could pull the MAF off the car to clean it. If you don't you'd be trying to spray through the honeycomb and you can't see what you're doing. If you pull the MAF, you'd have better success. Just pull the MAF and airbox as a unit. Taking the MAF off the airbox is a pain. There are 4 studs that are anchored to the airbox by plastic channels that the stud "head" sit in. When you apply torque to the nut on this stud that holds the MAF to the airbox,, the plastic will break. You'll understand what I mean if you try to do it.
But I've cleaned my MAF with that exact stuff, it's fine.

Believe it or not, an impact works wonders at spinning those little 10mm's off without breaking the plastic airbox... You got to hit it like it is a crank bolt, but for about a 1/4 sec. Spins off clean with no worries
Yeah I'll be taking out the MAF to do it thats how I noticed all the greasy dirt. While I was doing a boost leak test. I thought break cleaner would damage the sensors? Thanks for the suggestions
So I'm guessing the CRC is good to go?

I just ordered a case of that CRC MAF cleaner for the shop. Not sure about the "hp gains" implied on the front of the can. But keeping the MAF clean on whatever you drive will always help. I see it as just another step in maintaining and charge a little extra for the service. It's an easy sell to our customers....Ka-ching$$$
