Too much oil

A few days ago I had my oil changed at a local mechanic. He messed up and put too much oil into it. I checked the dipstick and its about .7 cm above the maximum. I thought about draining a bit but then i would have to change the washer too. Is a little bit above max ok? or should I drain some of it out?

change what washer.. pull the oil filter, empty it, repeat till your at the correct level.. too much oil causes, sloshing in the pan, thus creating oil hitting the crank, slowing it down, among other things... that line on the dipstick is there for a reason..

Extra oil in the pan can cause aeration of the oil. With that you lose hydraulic pressure causing damage to your engine!

do like dafarmer said and drain some out!

That is one of the reasons I always change my own oil. I would take it back to them and make them drain so out. Also by the way don't worry about the washer I have never changed mine and not had a problem.

Drain it out. It will start to foam or aerate and then you will have a problem. I am not sure with the Evo engine but if the oil pressure is too high it can break a gasket.

drain some out. and you could reuse that washer again, or buy one cheap at an auto parts store

too much oil could result in
oil-fouled spark plugs, oil leaks caused by oil seal failure or engine damage due to oil foaming.

a little extra oil might not hurt it (short term) , but if your pushing you evo hard then extra oil could cause a problem

btw - diy for oil changes is your best alternative
just remember to keep recepts of what you buy and when for the oil change. warranty purposes

@ everything except "****". While I'm not gay, I find that offensive. But what else you said is spot-on hilarious.

I think he was referring to the 4th definition:

Noun
*** (plural: ****)

(UK, Aus/UK slang) A cigarette.
(UK slang) A chore; an arduous and timesome task.
(US slang, offensive) A male homosexual.
Note: This is offensive only if used by a non-homosexual person to describe a homosexual male. Homosexual persons often use this term in describing one another.
(US slang, offensive) A jerk, an *******.
Why did you do that, you ***?
(UK (archaic)) term used in UK public schools for a younger student acting as a servant for senior students
(US technical) In textile inspections, a rough or coarse defect in the woven fabric.

I wouldn't even worry, when you check the engine oil the oil is all the way to the botton but in normal situation you would tell the difference since the oil is moving all over the engine, oil lines, oil coolers, turbo, oil filter, heads, etc.
