I put my xm antenna on the trunk on my civic and when I uninstalled it I also had tiny scratches under the magnet. I put my antenna on the dashboard in the Evo and have been much happier.
I also work at Circuit City and we typically put them on the roofs of the cars by the windshield and run the wire through the molding, thats another idea I just think the dash looks much cleaner.

yeah I read the radio removal instructions. I've taken the center console off before, so this peice should be a snap. I purchased the Alpine CDA-9856 this morning, along with the ipod cable and the alpine sirus tuner. ipod cable is backordered though

Where did you buy it, only place I searched was crutchfield? I am looking at that exact one also.

TIA

Yeah I ordered mine from crutchfield, I've had good dealings with them in the past. I highly recommend them if the price between them and another vendor are close.

you have basically the same set up I have. The ipod tuner is between the glove box and the cabin filter cover. held in with velcro. sounds rigged but it has been fine for the last 6 months. It fits perfect

I put mine on the back of the trunk also, but to avoid scratching I put some clear static cling underneath

That's right, and you also have to worry about rust forming under (and around) the magnet.

I put mine in nearly the same place, but mounted on the *window* side. It's pointing at an angle to the rear, now. Reception is fine. Low profile. No scratches or rust.

(If you do a search, I did post a picture of mine in another thread)

Good luck!

Nope. No options for a direct signal. You can do an FM Direct. But its still going through FM modulation when doing a seperate unit.

Yes, when mounting the antenna to some part of the outside of your vehicle, you will get little scratches. Ive seen in person installs of these all the time, and there is no other way, other than mounting it inside, to avoid this. Ive got my XM and Sirius antennas on my dash in the center close to the windshield.

yep, that's what i did. i understand that i'm losing some sound quality by going through FM but on the other hand if i want i can use that unit anywhere (given power source and antenna) and it can come with me if i sell my car, so the sacrifice was acceptable for me
