newbie question
hey guys im new here my names josh , anyways im gettin a 06 lancer evo IX it has 20 miles on it ill have it in 3 weeks i was curious to see how long the break in period is before i could start getting on it really opening it up i wanna break it in properly . And how long before i start adding modificatons since its bn i will only be adding cat back and intake i dontneed much this car stock is gonna blow my mind i have never driven or rode in a car to these specs . thanks alot of ur help
The break in period is 1000 miles. Don't rev your engine past 7k rpms. You can add modifications after the break in period, but for now you should just get used to the car like I had to because this was my first turbocharged car. Btw, use the search button on this website before you getted flamed for an unnecessary thread. Hope you have fun with your new car man, enjoy!!!
thats wrong dont listen to him....its 600 miles and cant rev past 5k and ya wanna play in the boost a good amount. DO NOT LISTEN TO HIS ADVICE!
good luck with the car

first 70 are the most important.. keep the revs varied, and dont go over 5000 rpm.. and dont get all boost happy until you hit 1500 mi.. change your oil at that point, if you can do a comp check to make sure the rings are sealed good, if all seems fine boost and mod away.. btw, if you decide you NEED a bov, buy a forge or leave the factory metal one there.. and dont try to vent the bov to the atmosphere..

He's just giving his own opinion.
Actually guys Im sorry. lol I meant to say 5k rpms, btw when I got my car, I was told by fellow evo owners not to rev past 5k until I hit 1000 miles. Sorry about the 7k thing; I'm in History class using the laptops right now and I'm watching my teacher. LOL
hey muslim for as much as we have said to search, you should have learned by now that is not right..
also, take it easy with the car till you know her real good.. cause she will drive you if your not careful.

There are many different ways to "break in" a car. Its all in your technique. I personally drove the car normally and then ever so often I would put it in boost, i never went past 6k tho before 1,000 miles. Also dont forget to get your oil changed.
What I did was:
1) Got a boost gauge as mine didn't come factory installed.
2) Didn't rev past 5k rpm, while driving in varied RPMs till ~600 miles.
After that started to take the RPMs up bit by bit. By 1000 miles, I crept up to the redline, but not bouncing off the limiter.
3) Got an oil change at around 1200 miles. After that I drive like it was meant to be driven! But within the limitations, of course.
The boost gauge I installed because I needed to see that I was not constantly boosting during the break-in. Also, it is a necessity in this type of car as you will soon mod!
Please drive safe and know the limits of yourself rather than the car, as the car, in general, is more capable than we are as drivers.
