For me, there really isn't much point. All of my driving is fairly local. Last year I put 15,000 miles on the evo. And thats using it for my daily driver. I do wish i had something a little less nice to abuse during the winter, but on the same token I sold my S2000 to have a car that I could drive in the winter and enjoy year round so here we are. Not to mention my first 50,000 miles maintenance is paid for through Mitsu, it really isn't that bad, my winter tires were bought for me for christmas, so really the only maint I do is put gas in the car and do a oil change inbetween every mitsu provided change.

Well, I'll warn you. If you get a beater, you will feel like crap every day when you drive it. I drive my beater 2-3 days a week, and it sucks the fun right out of the day. By the way, my beater is a 95 neon.

Get a beater, but get one that looks nice and gets good gas mileage. My daily is a 05 Honda Civic and I have piece of mine driving her. It saves my Evo from rocks, bird crap, salt, etc...Most importantly make sure it is reliable.

I would probably drive the evo on a daily basis. And then when the evo x comes out and i buy one, my evo 8 becomes my beater.

ah. i only ask because i'm of the mindset that settlement money should be used to replace whatever was lost as closely as possible. just wanted to advise you to take care of anything health related first, set extra aside if it looks long term, before you spend it on the evo, that's all. if you've got that smartly covered, then have fun and good luck.

I bought a 300$ Hyundai Scoupe last October for a winter beater. Short of the rear main seal going out and starter dying last week, its been ok. Gets 30mpg around town and saved me 50$/month in insurance. I always enjoy driving my Evo whenever I can, but I wanted to keep the mileage as low as possible, and also not have to drive it in bad weather. In the end, it was worth it.

I thought about saving that money and just let the miles go up on the evo and then use that money to do bigger things in the evo in the future, like getting a stroker kit. If I do wait and save that money I will probably have close to 8k-10k by next year. I just want to see what you guys think and some suggestions of what I should do.

I have a 94 Toyota Paseo (same as tercel pretty much), entire interior is stripped except for the drivers seat. Weighs around 2200 lbs. Gets like 36 mpg or better, and has never broken down EVER. With this low of a curb weight its actually really fun taking turns in, however the accleration (100 HP) leaves something to be desired. With the interior being stripped (also no AC, or front/rear bumpers) I both save on gas (car is lighter) and I can haul fairly large items since the passenger and rear seat is gone. Its like having a pickup truck except u get great gas mileage! =)
