Evo the next Supra???
I dont think they will go out of business rather they may shift markets. However, with their line of evos out in the states they are raking in the doe. They should have done this long ago.
from autobeat:
DCX TO MAKE MITSUBISHI A SUBSIDIARY UNDER
$6.7 BILLION BAILOUT PLAN. DaimlerChrysler AG and
other major shareholders have agreed to a two-step plan to
inject ailing Mitsubishi Motors Corp. with up to $6.7 billion in
capital, according to Japanese news media reports.
They say DCX and an array of Mitsubishi group
companies that includes Mitsubishi Corp., Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries and Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi will pump
between $3.6 billion and $3.8 billion into MMC this year.
The investors also will ask financial institutions
headed by the government-owned Development Bank of
Japan to inject another $1.2 billion or more into MMC.
DCX separately has agreed to invest up to $2.9 billion
more in MMC in fiscal 2006 if the company has returned
to profitability by then. That investment will turn MMC into
a wholly owned subsidiary of the German automaker.
DCX would not be investing this type of money if they didn't expect to stay in business and turn a profit.

MHI (Mitsu Heavy Ind) is one of the worlds largest conglomerates. Chapter 11 in their auto division means that somebody spent a lot of money looking for a big payoff that hasnt come yet OR
Stupid spending.
1) First rule of big industry spending. Why buy one with the companies money when you can have two at twice the price
2) The President, Vice President and so on of the company DON'T pay 300 dollars for a box of pencils an 600 for two rolls of toilet pape.
Thats government spending rules, but seriously, how much different is it, aside from the fact that there are people willingly investing instead of taxpayers dollars?
Dont get me wrong, I love my country and all the great of Japan and others, but there are mentalities that people just dont grasp...well, some may.
Mistu will be around for a long time, I would worry about the Eclipse getting the chop before anything else did.

If Mitsubishi goes under, of course these cars will be valuable and rare. They are vaulable enough with them in business. The Eclipse GSX still fetches a pretty penny. What was the point of this?

at the chicago auto show the spider was catching the eye of alot of people(not my personal taste). I think one of mitsu's strengths are that they arent waist deep in sport ute offerings like toyota and some others. that market is taking a crap right now with oil prices and all.
just needs to stop and take a long look at what they are doing to the evo X. they are pulling out of the nitch they helped create and currently lead if not dominate in and trying to move up to a different class that has alot of stiff competition like the M3 that I am not entirely sure they can pull off. I feel as though makeing the evo softer is an oxymoron. It is a tool, a hammer, a scalpel, not a luxury/comfort item.
i recall hearing that rumor about a year or so ago. abit late with this. but yea as of now i can say i think evos are very rare, they do hold their value very well, and very few are seen on the roads. i will be holding on to mine a long time after im done paying it off. for sure they will hold their value.
MMNA is not going out of business, they are on their way out of financial problems. The new eclipse is selling well, not to mention that Evo's are selling through the roof. Regular Lancer sales have also picked up.
DCX is investing in them heavily, what no one else has discussed is their breakthough technology in thier new AWD prototype with no traditional transmission. All 4 wheels are independently powered by a small motor, which can run on gas/diesel or ethanol. If they design a decent car with exceptional gas mileage they could upset toyota in the hybrid market.

Most people do not find a EVO a gorgeous car like most do find a FD and a supra. Now if young kids keep wrecking them that's a different story.
