Thats actually normal because they are carbon brakes. They need to be warmed up to work properly. Now if you hear squeaking all the time then thats not usual.

K1S,


The 3 things I found wrong and anoying about my Evo 9 are:

1) Brakes make noise no matter what, even if you clen then periodically
2) gear shifting use to be notchy in just about any gear(went away with Shyncromesh)
3) the noise from the gearbox is annoying as hell, it sounds same as if you had straight cut gears(dog box)

That is all....

I have a 9 and I havent experienced any of those problems. I am at 3000miles.

Brake squeak big time!
Tranny clunk from 1-2-3-4

My IX had the same problem with the brakes squeeling..but it went away. I called the dealer about it and they said it was probally just a pebble that got stuck in between the rotor and brake pad. My IX has that tranny thunk that eveybody is talkin about. Mine is a 5 speed though..

Don't bother bringing it in... there isn't anything wrong. The brakes squeel... a lot of people have that problem (mine have since day 1). It's pretty normal with high-performance brakes.

I have almost 2000 miles on my MR and the 1-2 has been the demon on my tranny from day one, if I get the revs just right it slips in no problem.

I'm also dealing with noisy lifters which I hope in time with quiet down some.

my brakes only squeak at low speeds like in parking lots

otherwise the only issue i've had is a loose boost solenoid fuse (i think). Oil changed at 1000 miles and 4000 miles. 5300 on the clock thus far.

the tranny needs to be broken in, as do the brakes. . .the squeal is normal under light braking, the thunk is because you're dropping the clutch so damn fast and the flywheel hasn't bed to the clutch just yet.

the other stuff is cosmetic and you'll have to get used to it, it's STILL a lancer, you piad 30k for an engine and suspension that is WARRANTED, you could do the same to a stock Acura, Eclipse, Neon, etc. but you won't have the beauty of the R&D putting it together in such a seamless package that has so many little quibbling quirks. . .

the oil seal is odd, that's why I'd NEVER buy an early production run of a new model EVEN if it's 90% carried over from before. . .I've had my VIII for 8k since August of 2005 and no problems *knock on wood*. . . tranny change, btw, is recommended at 10 or 15k, not 4k, but people do it to keep the metallic grit from recirculating, which isn't an issue anyways because the drain plugs have magnets that pick up the synchro and lsd wear. . .so I'm not sure why we're wasting the money on tranny changes> . . . . ?
