Mitsu's latest press release

Here's the interesting part:
Mitsubishi's surge of new products will total four completely new vehicles in 2004 while also making significant styling and performance enhancements to three others. The highly-anticipated Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution went on sale for the first time in the United States in February. According to O'Neill, demand for the high-performance super compact sedan has exceeded expectations.

"American driving enthusiasts have been clamoring for Lancer Evolution for years," explained O'Neill. "The response at dealerships has been outstanding." The company sold 556 Lancer Evolutions in March, its first full month in showrooms. A brand marketing campaign featuring Lancer Evolution will begin later this spring.

556 x 12 = 6672

I sure would like to know if the Evo will be getting those "performance enhancements."

Mitsubishi is preparing for the world debut of the all-new, completely
redesigned Mitsubishi Galant mid-sized sedan at the New York International
Auto Show later this month. Galant marks the company's second Project America
vehicle. Mitsubishi will also debut a new-for-North America sporty five-door
Lancer Sportback in New York. Both the 2004 Lancer Sportback and 2004 Galant
will go on sale later this year. An updated Mitsubishi Diamante will bow in
New York and later this year the 2004 Outlander receives performance upgrades.
Hmm interesting news...Looks like New York will be the place to be. LancerSportback, Galant, Diamante, will debut in New York. Looks like the Outlander will receive the "Performance Upgrade"

That would be cool. Porsche, BMW & Mercedes have all released hi-pro SUV's, might be a good market for a more affordable version.

Where do you get 556 x 12?

Figure this, the latest number I heard was 4,500. They're shipping approximately 500 units every 3 weeks. That's just shy of 7 months from the beginning. (March) That puts us at October and it's all over. There's not going to be any Evos for Christmas.

Just remember - when the car shows up at the dealership, Mitsu (or any other car mfgr) has sold it. The dealer owns the car at that point as far as is concerned, so half of that 556 number still could be sitting on showroom floors with 10K mark-ups.

I know you work for a dealer, and I don't Fireball, but I find it hard to believe Mitsu will leave money sitting on the table. I wouldn't be surprised if they do what Subaru did with the WRX (increase production). Also, that was the first month of release. That 556 could always decline...

The performance upgrade in the Outlander will likely be the 2.4l MIVEC found in the RalliArt Lancer, rather than the 2.0l Turbo found in the RalliArt Airtrek...

I don't know about anybody elses dealerships, but there are still five sitting on my dealers' showroom floor. There's another five sitting at the dealership across town and there's at least one more sitting in St. George two hours away (I live in Vegas)...
It's all dealer HYPE HYPE HYPE!! (boring and old)

Don't believe the hype, just believe the car...

My .02,

Oni'

Where do you get the 12 months from? The model year is half over already.

Not correct. That 556 number is for RDR's - cars retailed to customers, not delivered to dealers.

I was simply showing what the total would be if they sold that many each month for a year.

Plus, as themothership has said, the Evo is here to stay. The 2004 Model Year Evo may come out when the other 2004 Lancers do or they may just wait till March 2004 to release the Evo. Whatever the case is, I'll be trading mine in if it has additional performance pieces that the 2003 is missing.
