RICE = Cars that have this load exhaust and are going no where. THat gets me mad.

RICE = WHen you put money into a car, and you put no performance parts except a load *** exhaust and a intake, and it goes no where, But you put 5k into a 9k car and its all show mods and you enter no show contest.

RICE = ALl these kids that try to race ion their civic like they are going to prove anything.

RICE = One of my friends that brakes with the hand brake cuz he said its a better brake system for his civic. HAHHA

RICE = Equal cars that blow the f*** out their blow off valve to get attention.

RICE = SOmeone that thinks 16s 1/4 is good.

RICE = To some it up RICE, is (Ricers, Intake Cat-back Exhaust), CuZ if thats all you got on your car and are not going to do anything else to it you are RICE

I think"rice" is too subjective to define. It all depends on one persons opinion of styling, etc. just my .02cents

My friend, too old and confused. Rice does not exclude a make or model... no matter how much you love the car.

Rice has nothing to do with speed.

Bad taste and ghetto fabulous customizing is not rice, it's just bad. People need to get off the "Rice Train" and just leave it alone. Not every part put on a vehicle for customizing purposes has to have any real form or function at all, get used to it. Look at most Lowriders and show cars that are driven on the street. Although, when customizing a vehicle you should have good taste or have help putting something tasteful together. I agree there is much bad taste on the street when it comes to customizing, but just leave it at that.
Quoated for the truth.

Evo's really never look rice becaue most owners don't want to put junk on their $30,000+ car. Civic owners, who don't have a whole lot of money will put anything on their cars just to attempt to make it look better and sound cooler. Why do you think there are hardly any generic parts for evos? Because there's no demand for them. There are plenty for civics. Just my .02
That's a very broad statment so ill break it down for you. When it comes to age bracket, the average evo owner isn't old or older as you think. They range between 18-25. The majority of that bracket still lives at home with mommy and daddy or they have a job that barely pay for the evo expenses a month. So you may have just alil bit more than a civic owner. Also again, stop excluding a make or model from the term... any car can be that word.

I bolded the ones that are stupid logic on your part. This coming form a GT-S owner which popular bolt on are intake, exhaust and PFC.

everyone has their own opinion on the word Rice, i remember back in my rsx days, people would crack on another guy if he had a wide body kit, some wild color wheels, or anything with neons or of that nature. i have also noticed the crowd of people on here are more of a mature nature. remember alot honda guys arent really guys but more like teenage kids. to them non painted aftermarket kits on their cars are cool and so are huge monster tachs that change color. everyone has their one idea basically

And what purpose does a "vortex generator" serve other than looks?

I'm sorry, but there is no way that little thing generates ANY downforce.

The first usage of the term "rice" I am familiar with was in grade school in the early 80s referring to Japaneses motorcycles as rice rockets.

Last i heard, rear window wind diffusers like the "vortex generator" have been proven to work in wind tunnel testing. How much do they work? Now thats the question i don't have an answer to.

I think rice is basically any mod that has no performance merit whatsoever or can be bought at Pepboys, has APC on it anywhere, would win "style" points in a car show and, would generally be considered in bad taste by a group of people that have a reasonable amount of common sense. If you have to ask what a reasonable amount of common sense is you're not in that group.

Actually the Term "Rice" stems from "Rice Burner". From what I remember back in the early 90's muscle car guys called Jap cars Rice Burners because they were typically four cylinder engines that well, ran on rice....so they said. Back them I owned a Conquest TSI, a four cylinder-turbo charged rice buner. And in its day, it performed similar to how the Evo does today. Also just like the Evo, people were always suprised how potent the 4's could be.

It is used more on airplanes where wind laminar flow is important.

And this technology is now being transferred to automobiles. A Vortex Generator tunes and directs air onto the rear spoiler's new wickerbill to generate maximum downforce at speed. Mitsubishi released thermal photos before, for the evos with and without the vortex generators and it appears that they do work at higher speeds. I will post it as soon as i find it.

I think for most people it has evolved from that to a negative conotation.

If you want to get technical it probably started with the japenese bikes being called Rice Rockets and transfered to cars from there.

You are partially correct , the "Rice, Rice burner, Rice rocket for bikes later on in the 80's" term originated with the domestic auto workers way before the 90's and then stemmed out into the domestic hot rod and muscle car communities as well as street bikes. None the less, you are still right. No doubt it comes from a deragatory root like some other names we will not talk about that were popularized. With my family as well as myself being at one point or another an American auto worker, I know this all too well unfortunately.
