So is that the ALS system kicking in? The suspension looks compressed, so it appears he's going into a corner where ALS might be useful. Looks nice either way.

That would be the undercarriage of the car scraping the ground, creating the sparks.

Eh, kinda what I figured, but I was hoping it was something cooler than that. ALS flames usually appear as flames. That's clearly spark like. Oh well.

I'd think that if ALS flames can be seen, they would be seen shooting out of the exhaust pipe, correct?

SC: Yes, out the exhaust pipe. I personally don't think you'd be able to see them, though. The ALS combustion should be happening before the turbo in the exaust manifold if you want to get the desired effect. I'd think the turbo and long length to the back of the car would cause you not to see the ALS flames themselves.

But any fuel not burned by the ALS or by regular combustion may light off in the exhaust pipe and cause flames to shoot out the exhaust.

And before everyone starts clammering for an ALS for their EVO's, realize it is usually one race..... one turbo.

I guess if you have a full exhaust, ALS flames might be less likely seen. In my case, when I was using ALS on my Talon, I had a shorty pipe off the turbo dumping immediately below the engine. You'd see that sucker. :-) Set ALS to 10-15 degrees ATDC and watch it light up. Not so bad on the turbo for drag racing purposes, but kills 'em quick on a road course or rally.

FWIW, the EGTs measured in my exhaust manifold while running ALS were "only" 1650F or so. Not too absurd if you're worried about melting turbine housings or wheels or whatever. I run 1600 or very close to it for extended periods of time down the drag strip, so short burst from ALS probably isn't going to kill the turbo.

Sorry to be so off topic. That car just inspires tech racing discussions.
