If this is the mentality you could just wait forever, because when the X comes out there will be something better coming out the year after that and so on. I have an 03 and have no regrets, plus I am satisified with the car. Most of us dont even use 100% of the cars ability, (even in the track) getting newer models just becomes bragging rights.

1. Styling compared to the pics of the X. I think that the X is a good looking car, but it does not at all look like an Evo. I absolutely love the way the IX looks.

2. The 4G63 engine has been around for a long time. This engine has lasted the "Test of Time". I realize they are trying to make more HP with a new engine in the X. This just scares me. If I were to wait for the X, I wouldn’t buy it right away. I would then have to wait for the XI or later gens to make sure that the flaws are corrected.

3. The pre X Evos are easily modified and there is a huge amount of support by people who really know what they are doing with the engine/drivetrain setup of these cars.

Sure the X might have more stock HP, but what’s stopping the IX from having a few mods and blowing it out of the water?

This is all my opinion. Others may disagree.

Let me know what you decide, I am curious what you think.
Im not even worrying about the X. I just plain out dont want one. Im just trying to decide if the IX will be improved drastically within the next year or two. Forget the X in my case...

That is a risk that you have to take, when I bough the WRX on Sep 03 just afew months alter they changed the front face and some interior accents making my 03 even more obsolete.

The Evo VII, the Evo VIII and the Evo IX they all sahre a lot of cosmethic, I mean there are minor exterior differences, I don't think they will change the Evo 9 much because the X suppose to be a whole new beast so it wouldn't be worth changing the Evo 9 much.

And.....so what if it is? Eh, whatever. If a few extra stock hp is worth waiting a year or 2, then stick with the scooby.

That's what I was thinking too. Then it turned out be another one of *these* threads.

I'm beggining to feel like the minority since I'm driving an '03 VIII. When I bought mine, I hardly saw another Evo. Most people had no idea what the car even was.

Well, I've sat by and watched newer and quicker models be produced. I became slightly envious, knowing that the work I've done to correct "weaknesses", such as turbo lag, are being corrected by Mitsu and coming to you out of the box. If my issue was speed, I can do the same mods as the IX to produce real results. The truth is...I'm proud to be driving an VIII, and one of the first 50 sent to the U.S. (as told by Mitsu). I'm so proud that I'm thinking of badging my currently badgless Evo with a few "VIII's."

Get the IX and have fun. It's cool and quick in its own right...Even if a new model supercedes it.

If you keep waiting for the latest and greatest you will be waiting indefinitely for a car. Just get an 8 or 9 and call it a day, not much is known about the 10.

I was in this situation. Ask yourself how often does the opportunity to get Top dollar for your used car then get a newer model for 2k under invoice come up! I have bought/ sold many cars and usually dealers give you about 2K under trade-in value.
it is hard to sell a used car worth over 20k to the public, especially the EVO. young kids with no money will just try to low ball you. Why buy a used EVO when you can get a new one for a few grand more? unload your VIII now if you want the IX.

I took a very close look at the IX and the difference in price was worth the upgrade. (to me)

I also heard a rumor that the IX is not going to meet new 2007 safety standards and production my stop this August. So the possibility of no EVO until the X is out will keep the value of your IX higher than normal! It was a win win for me. GET YOUR IX NOW!

I am just scared that I will buy a 2006 IX and in 2007 or 2008 they will release a IX with xx more horsepower with better features. If we had facts that this is the last EVO made before the IX, I would feel much better and would purchase it. I just dont want what happened the the VIII's (05>03,04) happening to the IX's.

If you thought this, what influenced your opinion to purchase a 2006 IX? Any new information?

Thanks!
Dude, this has been beatin to death. There's always going to be something better around the corner.
Back in 05, people were dying to get an MR. Now, I think people with 05 MR's have got to be pissed, because the base 2006 model comes with nearly everything for less! Just how things go dude. It's called progress or....dare I say it... evolution.
The IX is rated at 286hp vs the previous 271hp. That seems like it's putting out 15hp more at the crank, but it's been dynoing 15-20whp more (that's at the wheels). And that 286hp is putting down more on the dyno than the 300hp STi. But lots of people thing the STi 300hp has been overrated, so let's not start that debate again!

The funny thing about all this is when the 10 actually is released most people gonna want to unload their 8/9 to get one. You may not feel that way now but I guarantee when the "NEW" model hits the streets and you are in your dated lancer econobox you'll envy the 10. I doubt Mistu is gonna screw it up. Odds are it will be better.

If you already own an 8 it makes no sense to get a 9 unless you have pounded the living crap out of the 8 and it needs some TLC to get back to like new condition. The 9 is a great car but I'm not gonna pay an additional $9k for nearly the same flipping car!!!

I'm gonna drive my 03 into the ground and when the 10 is actually released I will decide what move to make. The value of all models is going to hold strong. Hell even high mileage 2G DSMs are selling for more than they are worth. There are tons of people waiting to get 8/9s.

If I didn't have an evo right now.....I would buy used 03 and wait for the 10. That way I could still have a blast pounding on the car. I wouldn't lose my **** if I decide to upgrade to the 9 or 10. And lastly I may just fall in love the with great deal I already have and just keep it.
